Name of the drug

Indication Infections of URT, LRT, GUT, skin and soft tissue, bone and joint, septic abortion, peripheral sepsis, intra abdominal sepsis. Post surgical infections. Prophylaxis against infections associated with major surgical procedure.

Action Combination of amoxicillin. With clavulanic acid, a B-lactamase inhibitor; results in an antibiotic with an increased spectrum of action and restored efficacy against Blactamase producing amoxicillinresistant bacteria.

Contraindication Hypersensitivity to penicillin, possible cross sensitivity with other b-lactams.

Adverse effect Diarrhea Vomiting Rash Hepatitis Nausea Thrombocytopenia

Nursing consideration - Obtain patient’s history. - Assess pt for any signs and symptoms of infection. - Assess for allergic reactions during treatment - Monitor for bleeding - Assess bowel pattern and signs of dehydration .
