Wastes as fertilizers

Introduction

What are wastes?

Types of wastes

Use of wastes as fertilizers

Methods of using wastes as fertilizers

Advantages and disadvantages

In living organisms, waste is the unwanted substances or toxins that are expelled from them. More
commonly, waste refers to the materials that are disposed of in a system of waste management.

Waste is directly linked to human development, both technologically and socially. The compositions
of different wastes have varied over time and location, with industrial development and innovation
being directly linked to waste materials. Examples of this include plastics and nuclear technology.
Some components of waste have economical value and can be recycled once correctly recovered.

Waste is sometimes a subjective concept, because items that some people discard may have value
to others. It is widely recognized that waste materials are a valuable resource, whilst there is debate
as to how this value is best realized.

 municipal solid waste (MSW)

 construction waste and demolition waste (C&D)

 institutional waste, commercial waste, and industrial waste (IC&I)

 medical waste (also known as clinical waste)

 hazardous waste, radioactive waste, and electronic waste

 biodegradable waste

Wastes as fertilizers

Using wastes as fertilizers is a very good solution for the removal of wastes. But all waste types
cannot be used as fertilizers. Some waste have a high potential to be used as fertilizers also there are
some waste types that have a zero potential to be used as fertilizers.
Mainly wastes containing bio degradable organic matter have a higher potential to be used as
fertilizers than other types. Using hazardous waste, radioactive waste and electronic wastes as
fertilizers is impossible thing. Therefore it is very important to understand the potential of a
waste to it to be used as fertilizer. When considering this potential its effects on,

1. Environment
2. Human
3. Other animals and plants

Have to be taken into account.
