INTRODUCTION

Central sterile service was established to centralize the decontamination,assembly,sterilization,distribution and control of sterile items and equipments used in all areas of the hospital. By centralising these activities it is possible to provide more effective and efficient services. The overall objective of central service is to have right item at the right place,at the right time in the right condition. The scope of central service is not only to provide and render service,but also to maintain quality aseptic control procedures in continuing effort to prevent and control the spread of infection.

OBJECTIVES OF CSSD

1.To provide optimum service to all departments that requires sterile supplies and or equipment. 2.To train all employees inorder to assure optimal sterile techniques and aseptic handling of all sterile items. 3.To effectively c arry out the various process of cleaning,disinfection and sterilization. 4.To accurately complete the sterilization process for all items,using the method determined by the manufacturer and infection control. 5.To maintain quality control parameters for all methods of sterilization and to document the effectiveness of each method.

CSSD IN CHARGE

1.Overall monitoring of sterilization. 2.To monitor & supply sterilized items. 3.To provide expert advice to the hospital infection control committee. 4.To provide education to the nursing & paramedical staff. 5.To provide quality control measures 6.To keep maintaining all documents & registers about every autoclaving cycles & performance test. 7.Test & evaluate new products. 8.Assisting in purchase of new equipment and supplies required for CSSD. 9.Annual evaluation of staff. 10.Reporting of vacancies in CSSD to HRD.

TECHNICIANS 1.Monitoring of sterilization. 2.Monitor & supply sterilized items. 3.To maintain quality control parameters. 4.Maintaining all documents & registers. 5.Instrument processing. 6.Oiling & assemblig of instuments. 7.Folding and packing of all linens,drapes & dressing materials. 8.Drying properly of all washed particulars. 9.Regular evaluation of sterilizer functioning. 10.Ensuring infection control.

CSSD ASSISTANTS 1.Assisting the CSSD Technicians. 2.Cleaning & washing of all unsterile items. 3.packing the linens,dressing materials. 4.Assembling the trays,instruments.
