FOUNDATION TRAINING QUALITY ASSURANCE MATRIX
CONTAINING THE GAP BEFORE IT BECOMES BIG
Gaps remain unfilled when the criterion for passing a foundation training course is set
below 100%. Many training systems require trainees to achieve a minimum of 70% to
be declared successful. This leaves some gaps which make further absorption of
knowledge and skills difficult and might create larger gaps as a result of the
accumulation of smaller gaps. A Quality Assurance tool is proposed in this paper to fill
the gaps during the delivery of a course. The proposed matrix is also excellent for
documenting and recording gap analysis.

Gap analysis and standardized records of gap filling is a very important function that
affects overall learning system management. “Foundation training quality assurance
Matrix” may be used to facilitate containment of the gaps as and when they begin during
a lesson delivery process, advantage is that the post test then becomes a sure check of
the objectives achieved. The proposed Quality assurance Matrix is as shown below.

Figure 1 matrix for gap analysis and Quality assurance of teaching

learning process
Figure 1 illustrates the matrix broken down to save space, note the knowledge Gaps in
the last row (2a,5c,3c of ID 072020, 2c of ID 072010 and so on).

Knowledge & skill gaps are present in every human being, these gaps become larger if
a person is not practicing a skill for a considerable duration. The gaps get enlarged to
an extent that the enthusiasm and motivation to practice the profession or learn further
skills are affected and consequently the learning process becomes very slow or in many
cases apparently impossible. Procedure to use this quality assurance tool is
demonstrated by the flow chart shown below. The right hand side of the chart is dealing
an example.
