The vertical motion is an accelerated motion whereas horizontal component remains the same . Consider a body projected with an initial velocity ‘du’ at an angle of projection θ . . θ is the angle with the horizontal. then the motion of the particle is said to be projectile motion. Resolve the initial velocity along the vertical(y) and horizontal(x) direction. that it makes certain angle with the horizontal.Projectile Motion When a particle is so projected. The path of a projectile is a parabola and the initial velocity of the projectile can be resolved into two components in the horizontal direction and vertical direction.

U HEIGHT RANGE U : INITIAL VELOCITY V : FINAL VELOCITY θ Vsin θ Vcos θ V .

y Vy = U sin θ u θ Vx = u cos θ h Vy = 0 Vx x Time of flight of projectile : T = 2u sin θ/g Maximum height attained by the projectile : H = u2 sin2 θ/2g Horizontal range of projectile : R = u2 sin 2 θ/g .

(b) 10. the time after which its inclination with the horizontal is 45o is : (a) 15 seconds. Answer : (c) . (d) 2.745 seconds.98 seconds.A projectile is projected in the upward direction making an angle of 60o with horizontal direction with a velocity of 147m/sec. (c) 5.49 seconds. Then.

3 ms-1 at 53o with horizontal -1 upward & (2) 29. (c) (1) 12. (a) (1) 19.A person is standing on a truck moving with a constant velocity of 14. Find the speed and the angle of projection (I) as seen from the truck (2) as seen from the road.9 ms upward & (2) 18.3 ms-1 at 67o with horizontal.6 ms -1 upward & (2) 27.7 ms-1 on a horizontal road.6 ms upward & (2) 24. -1 (d). The man throws a ball in such a way that the ball returns to the truck after the truck has moved 58.3 ms (b) (1) 18.5ms-1 at 53o with horizontal.3ms at 53o with -1 horizontal.8 m. -1 Answer : (d) . (1) 19.

For what value of (h/ H). the body will take the maximum time to reach the ground. (a) 1/2 (c) 1/8 (b) 1/4 (d) 1/6 Answer : (a) .A body falling freely from a given height H hits an inclined plane in its path at a height h. As a result of this impact the direction of the body becomes horizontal.

The kinetic energy at the highest point is: (a) K (c) K sin 45 (b) Zero (d) K/2 Answer: (d) .A cricket ball is hit at 45° to the horizontal with a kinetic energy K.

5 m (c) 10 m (b) 12.A hose pipe lying on the ground shoots a stream of water upward at an angle of 60° to the horizontal. It will strike a wall 10 m away at a height of : (a) 10.The speed of the water is 20 m/s as it leaves the hose.32 m (d) 20 m Answer: (b) .

NEGLECTING AIR RESISTANCE THE MAGNITUDE OF CHANGE OF MOMENTUM IS_________. HINT:-CHANGE OF MOMENTUM = 2 mu sin θ (a) 2mv (b) mv (b)√2mv (d) Zero Answer:(b) .A PARTICLE HAVING MASS m IS FIRED WITH A VELOCITY OF v FROM A POINT AT AN ANGLE OF 45.

A bullet is dropped from same height when another bullet is fired horizontally. They will hit the ground: (a) one after the other (c) depends on the initial velocity (b) simultaneously (d) cannot be determined Answer: (b) .

what is the ratio of their velocities of projection? What is this ratio if they have the same horizontal range? (a) 1: √3 . 1:1 (c) 1:3 . 1:1 (b) √3:1 .Two balls are projected from the same point in directions inclined at 60o and 30o to the horizontal. 1:2 (d) 1:√3 . 1.2 Answer : (a) . If they attain same height.

A particle is projected such that the horizontal range and vertical height are the same. Then the angle of projection is (a) π /4 (c) tan-1(4) (b) tan1 (1/4) (d) π /3 Answer : (c) .

The horizontal range of a projectile is 4√(3) times its height. then the angle of projection is (c) 45o (d) 30o Answer : (d) .
