What is Tele-Immersion??

• Tele-Immersion is enable users in geographically

distributed sites to collaborate in real time in a shared
simulated environment as if they were in the same physical
room.

•Definition of Immersion: In general means a psycho-physical

condition which gives the user the illusion that heacts in an
environment which is different from the real one.
Why Tele-Immersion??

• As video conference and telepresence has draw

backs a new concept called Tele-Immersion is
introduced.
• Tele-Immersion is a new medium that enables a user
to share a virtual space with remote participants in a
3D world.
• Users feel like they are actually looking , talking and
meeting with each other face to face in the same
room.
 Benefits of Tele-Immersion

• Eye-contact between two partners talkimg to each other is

obtained.
• In conferences that everybody can recongnise who is looking
at whom.
• Voice of conference must come from the same direction where
he is positioned on the screen.
 Requirements to construct a
Tele-Immersion

• Desk surface (stereo immersive desk)

• Two wall surfaces (palsma dispalys)

• Two oblique front stereo projection sources

• Cameras arranged in stereo clusters  

• Inperceptable structured lights

Algorithm:
Stereo and muti-based stereo alogirthm for extraction of
3D information from a set of flat images.

Goals:
• High quality 3D mesh , no noise, no outliners.
• High resolution depth maps.
• High resolution textures.
• Real time frame rate.
How Tele-Immersion
works???
 Tele-Immersion working

• There is a sea of cameras which provide view of users and their

surroundings

• Mounted virtual mirrors provide each user a view how his

surrounding
mirrors.

• Imperceptible structured light looks like white light but projects

flickering of patterns.

• Screen uses two overlapping projections of polarized images and

requires users to wear polarized glasses so that each images is seen
only by one eye.
 Tele-cubicle

• A Tele cubicle is an office that can appear

to become one quadrant in a larger shared
virtual office space
