@MackCollier

1st how many of you have written down what you want to accomplish on your blog in 2011? What will 'success' look like on Dec 31? #blogchat @MackCollier I've set goals for page views, unique visits, comments and back links.
@GRTaylor2

@MackCollier

@GRTaylor2 But why do you need X number of page views, visits, comments? How does each tie back to ultimate goal for blog?

@MackCollier My goal is to increase audience and reach. Y1 was about getting up and running, Y2 increasing audience, Y3 monetize.

@GRTaylor2

@MackCollier

@grtaylor2 Ah so you are trying to build a readership so you can then monetize it?

@MackCollier Monetization as in client contracts and work for my firm. With readership strategic positioning is achieved. #BlogChat of Sunday – 3 January 2011.

@GRTaylor2

#BlogChat Topic : Creating a strategy and plan for your blogging efforts in 2011!

@grtaylor2 Perfect, so you are trying to indirectly monetize the blog. Using content to build @MackCollier awareness/thought leadership? @MackCollier Precisely. Thought leaders aren't born overnight, even if you are a veteran in your business.
@GRTaylor2

What are you trying to accomplish with your blog in 2011? #blogchat
@MackCollier

@MackCollier I want to build more of a community on my blog - a place that people can go to find answers to help them reach their goals!

@shesafitchick

@MackCollier

@shesafitchick And interaction can absolutely help u get more business, I just want to make sure you think about how they connect

@MackCollier on the readers first. Any tips?
@shesafitchick

#BlogChat Topic : Creating a strategy and plan for your blogging efforts in 2011!

@MackCollier

@shesafitchick As long as the readers are also potential clients for your consulting

@MackCollier Got it. Thank you so much for your tips! :)
@shesafitchick

@MackCollier

BTW if you have never thought to create a plan for your blog, then it might be hard at 1st, remember you can & WILL want to adjust #blogchat @MackCollier Then why plan?
@amoyal

@MackCollier

@amoyal Think of how you use Twitter and WHY you use Twitter. Have you changed your usage? I certainly have.

@MackCollier I'm just me on here I don't have a plan This space changes too much for that #BlogChat of Sunday – 3 January 2011.

@amoyal

#BlogChat Topic : Creating a strategy and plan for your blogging efforts in 2011!

@MackCollier

@amoyal You still should have a plan, even if you are just here to chat, you can plan your usage so more chats happe

@MackCollier I suppose for some things it is
@amoyal

@MackCollier

@amoyal For you, your plan could be to participate in Twitter chats like this, cause you know there's more interaction

Once you realize how all the pieces fit together, then it makes your blogging MUCH easier!

If you want your blog to generate business for you (directly on the blog, or indirectly) then WRITE THAT DOWN, then work backwards BTW guys it's far better to write down some goals then change, than to do nothing. You can always adjust later

Think about what your plan is, your goal, & the metrics (comments, subs) that you will measure to reach those goals.

BTW if you have never thought to create a plan for your blog, then it might be hard at 1st, remember you can & WILL want to adjust.

If you have a business blog or write for your company, then 'generating comments/visits' should NOT be your goal. Think bigger.
