1. SOLD OUT SOFTWARE QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE
Loading computer games can sometimes be a daunting task. We
here at Sold Out Software try to make the installation of
our games as quick, simple and effortless as possible. To aid
yourself in the installation of this piece of software it
is helpful that you have at hand certain bits of information
regarding your system set-up.
1. The drive letters associated with your machine:
All computers have letters assigned to different drives. By
default your 'floppy' drive will have the letter A:\ assigned
to it , your hard drive will be C:\ and your CD-ROM will be
lettered D:\. If, let's say, you have more than one hard
Drive then it is most likely that the second hard drive
would be D:\ and your CD-ROM would have E:\ assigned to it.
To avoid confusion, it is recommended that you familiarise
yourself with the letters assigned to your computer's drives
before trying to install your game. To do this, click on the
'My Computer' icon on your Windows desktop with your right
mouse button and then select 'Explore' with the left mouse
button. The left-hand window will contain all your drives
and applicable letters.
2. When we specify 'default directory' it means the
directory and drive that the game installation has been
pre-set to install to. You may change the installation
directory if, let's say, all games are installed to a
directory called 'Games' on your system.

5. LAST MINUTE INFORMATION & FAQ's
General Technical Issues:
Q. When I try and install CIII, it crashes!
A. Make sure the C: drive has enough free space( 150 to install
and at least 100 for the virtual memory needed to run the program).
Run ScanDisk and Defrag on the C:\ drive and on the drive
Caesar3 was installed on(if applicable).
Make sure the windows temp file is empty. Usually the directory
is C:\Windows\Temp
Be sure you have the latest sound and video drivers installed.
Restart the computer before attempting the installation. When
the computer reboots,
make sure ALL other programs are closed.(This includes desktop
utilities, virus scanners, etc)
Be sure to install DirectX 6 or higher.
Set the screen to 16 bit High Color and 640x480.
Q. What Version of DirectX does CIII use?
A. Caesar III was designed to use DirectX 6. www.microsoft.com/directx
has the latest version for downloading.

Q. Screen freezes/locks up while playing or Game crashes on Level "X"

A. Make sure you have the required 100 megs minimum free on the
C: drive, Directx6 and current video/sound drivers. Run Scandisk
and Defrag on the C: drive. Try restarting the computer and
closing all programs before resuming the game.
If the game still continues to crash at the exact same point,
remove and clean the CD gently(wipe with a soft cloth to remove
dust and fingerprints. Check for any scratches on the CD).
There is also a chance of a corrupted CIII file(s) if the crash
keeps occurring. In this case, back up all your SAV & MAP game
files, uninstall and then reinstall CIII. When the game is reinstalled,
copy your SAV & MAP files back into the Caesar3 directory, and run
Defrag once again before playing.

MSVBVM50.DLL Error
==================
If the error "The MSVBVM50.DLL file is linked to missing
export OLEAUT32.DLL:421." occurs while installing the game.
The error occurs because during the setup process, the
MSVBVM50.DLL file requires a version of OLEAUT32.DLL that
is newer than what comes with the original version of
Windows 95. Therefore you will need to replace this file
with the copy supplied on the your CD-ROM.
To replace the file simply double click on AXDIST.EXE file
which can be found in \DATA.NOW\EXTRAS directory on your
CD-ROM.
You will also have to restart your computer for the changes
to take effect.
When done, launch SETUP.NOW again and try to reinstall.
