Poetry Slam.
You will be doing 3 exciting things: 1. Researching a poet and his/her poetry. 2. Finding a favorite poem written by your poet. 3. Presenting your favorite poem and author findings to the class. How do you do this, you ask? Well, to start, you find a poet or a poem. Use these helpful resources: Poems categorized by age: http://www.poetryfoundation.org/archive/tool.child.age.html A poem for everyday of the school year: http://www.loc.gov/poetry/180/p180-list.html Poems for teens: http://www.poets.org/viewmedia.php/prmMID/20785 If you’ve now found a poem, you need to find out about the poet. If you’ve now found a poet, you need to find a favorite poem. Once you’ve found both, then go on... To preparing your information. You will be presenting a 3-5 minute presentation, including a reading of your favorite poem, a summary of the poem and an interpretation of its meaning, and background information on your poet. You will accompany your presentation with either a powerpoint, a poster, or handouts. The powerpoint, poster, or handouts should have the poem printed on them, 5 thoughts you had about the poem, 5 facts about the author (use a story, so we remember), and the sources you used. You will be graded as follows (x2): Category:
Clarity and accuracy of presentation. Delivery of presenter (composure, voice, etc.). Depth and extent of information/research. Displayed understanding of poem and poet.
