Stages of Team Development Scenarios


1. The group is meeting for the first time. No one is speaking to one another. Some of
the members look a little unsure and scared. People are starting to wonder why
they are spending their time attending this meeting.
Stage:

2. Members of the group are coming to you saying what they will or will not support
pertaining to certain aspects of the team. Some are refusing to let go of old or past
ways of doing things. You notice a few power struggles. People are not listening to
one another. In general, people just aren’t working well together.
Stage:

3. Members are speaking and listening to one another. They are starting to be
accepting of the rules set by the group. You’ve got members volunteering to take
on some key roles within the organization. People are settling into their roles and
working with one another.
Stage:

4. There is a lot of give and take going on. The team is using creative problem
solving techniques and coming to conclusions by reaching a consensus. People are
communicating and supporting each other. People are using their talents and
strengths to assist others in their weak areas to accomplish tasks or goals.
Stage:

5. Things are going great. You find out that three of your key leaders on the team
will be leaving for various reasons. You’ve also gained five new members.
