example, literary agent Jeff Herman has authored several books, one of which is the
perennial Jeff Herman’s Guide to Book Publishers, Editors & Literary Agents (Writers
Inc, 2003). This continually-updated 900-plus-page tomb of information can be
promoted and marketed by all the publishers, editors, and literary agents in the book,
while further establishing Jeff Herman as an authority in his field.

Talane Miedaner, life coach and author of Coach Yourself to Success (McGraw-Hill,
2000), is an unabashed self-promoter, offering monthly courses through the Learning
Annex and conducting training courses for Coach University. She realized that many of
the coaches she trained were introverted and had no interest in being in front of an
audience—they preferred a one-on-one environment over the phone. Considering this,
she created the Talane Coaching Company (www.talane.com) where she became the
infrastructure and sales force for her team of coaches. She also established an online
directory to help coaches connect with potential clients: www.lifecoach.com.
