Traction drive Driving sheave is used for power transmission to the elevator ropes. Traction force is initiated by the friction between ropes and the sheave grooves. .

Roping system Application depends on: location of the machine rated load rated speed Concerns with selection of system power consumption efficiency .

Elevator machines Most of the machines are worm gearing. It is very compact and of very small dimensions for given ratio and transmiitted power. . It has a minimum number of moving parts. thus minimizing maintenance and replacement.

.Elevator machines It is sometimes used in combination with a belt drive or a an additional pair of spur gears.

When the machine is fitted with a manual emergency operating device. the brake must enable releasing by hand. .Brakes It must be set in operation automatically in the event of loss of power supply. It stops the car by electromechanical friction.

. The mass of the traveling cable also counts if we are dealing with high-rise installations.Counterweight It is used to balance the mass of the car and a portion of the rated load.

.

) energy accumulation type b. Types of butters: a.) energy dissipation type .Buffers It acts as the final emergency device.
