I am from growing up without indepence

In a world that I don’t have my own thoughts and opinions.

I am from fear of cutting tomatoes too small or too large,

Fear from a disappointed hand smack across the mouth.

I am from following in my brothers foot steps in hopes that one day I can make them as proud.

I am from hunger for striving but fear of trying and resulting in failure.

I am from choirs and ensembles, captain of the dance team, cross country and marathons.

Out in the audience there is never a mother gazing at me so proud like they do for my brother.

Once or twice in my younger years, but only with ridicule and a frown.

I am from breaking away,

paining my family with such rebelling shame

by getting a job, moving out

And living in the American ways.
