Nyiah is the loving and precious daughter of Danielle and Carlos, and little sister to Carlos Jr & Kenya; the family resides in Matteson, IL. Nyiah, born November 6, 2005, was diagnosed with Sickle Cell Anemia - - a diseases in which her red blood cells form in an abnormal crescent shape. In August of 2009, Nyiah suffered a stroke that affected both sides of her brain and left her with some residual paralysis. Now, Nyiah faces a new battle, she needs a bone marrow transplant (BMT). With no matching donor within her immediate family, she is now looking for a ‘matching’ donor on the Be The Match Registry. Nyiah’s difficult task of finding a ‘matching’ donor is complicated by the limited number of African Americans who have joined the Registry. Nyiah and her family are asking you to join the Registry of committed potential donors that stands ready to give Nyiah and patients like her a second chance at life. And their hope is that even if you can’t help Nyiah, YOU may be able to help another patient and their family. In honor of Black History Month, the Black Student Union is stepping up enjoys swimming and playing with her and making a difference in their community. By hosting this drive, BSU friends. will help save lives of those in need.
