Spotlight On Art
When did you first start drawing and why? Well, I think I have been drawing all my life. I know that a lot of people like to answer the above question like this, but it really is true! I have always loved to draw. First, I just drew old windmills, still lives, rivers, trees and those sorts of things. I never thought I could draw a face. A lot of years past before I dared to draw a human being. And, in 1995 I drew my first pinup. It was an awful drawing, but still I was proud of finally taking the

challenge of drawing a face. For a while, there were a couple of years in which I wasn’t able to draw anything at all due to my job in the German Air Force. After those years, I started to study architecture. I found my passion to draw again while surfing ebay. I saw some drawings which sold pretty well and I thought I could use that money as a student. I admired his art because of the realism he brought into his work. When I looked through that book, I wanted to draw like him. His love for details always fascinated me. The colored drawings are great, but his black & white ones are the bomb! And lately I have been inspired by the photography of GW Burns: “Prisoner of Love”. I just love the striped stockings in that picture, and after GW letting me draw that picture, I knew I wanted to use these striped stockings as a signature feature, because I just loved those contrasts!
The only drawing courses I had were those in school and some at the university, but I didn’t think they could count. I am self taught. During the previous years before 2004 I went to a lot of art conventions. I talked to a lot of artists I admired, like John Hul, Erik Drudwyn, Dave Nestler and more, and tried to draw just like them.
