Kindergarten Team Newsletter

February 3, 2011 Dear Kindergarten Families, Winter has arrived! Now that we have returned from China, the CA K’s have been spending a little time talking about Winter Fun. We do thank you for making sure your Kindergartner is dressed well for outdoor play. Please note, even when the weather warms up snow pants and boots are needed to keep the mud off of shoes and clothing. Our next theme Under the Sea begins in February and goes all through March. We will be exploring underwater habitats and life through literature and a wide variety of activities. It is through our thematic units that children have the opportunity to apply skills while also being immersed in exploration. We are sure many discoveries will be made during this unit. Throughout February we also will be having several celebrations. On Monday, February 14, we will celebrate Valentine’s Day with our Fourth Grade Buddies. Kindergartners can begin bringing their signed cards to school on Monday, February 7. We’d like all cards to be here by Friday, February 11. Your child should sign the valentines and put classmates’ names on the envelopes as long as he/she can read the names. (If your child is not comfortable reading or writing classmates’ names, blank envelopes allow him/her to distribute the valentines easily without a teacher’s help.) A list of classmates is attached to this newsletter. It’s hard to believe how quickly the school year is passing. On February 10th we will be celebrating the 100th day of school. Each class will celebrate with numerous activities centered on the number 100.

Finally, in honor of Presidents’ Day, the Kindergartners will be hearing stories and learning about some of our past presidents.

Here are some other dates to remember: February 9- Late Start, classes start at 9:30 am February 10- 100th Day February 14- Valentine’s Day Celebration February 21- No School, Presidents’ Day February 24- Parent-Teacher Conferences begin after school February 25- No school due to Parent-Teacher Conferences

We hope you and your family have a fabulous February!

Sincerely, KA Teachers: KB Teachers: KC Teachers: KD Teachers: Mrs. Luers and Mrs. Newman Mrs. Turnock and Mrs. Schreiber Mr. Connick and Mrs. Korda Ms. Boaz and Mrs. Paulson
