The story of Dr. Jekyll and Hyde was written in late 19 th century. It was set in the city of
London, England.

-The theme is the main idea or ideas of the novel which are issues that ;
The author wants the readers to know, In the novel Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the themes
found are:
-The theme of the story is that there two sides to a man’s character. One is good and the
other is the bad. Therefore a man could easily become bad or evil.
- Dr. Jekyll believes that every person’s character has a good and a bad side He wants to
use his scientific knowledge to separate these sides and control them.
- When a person commits a crime, the person will be punished for the crime in one way or
another. For example, Edward Hyde is a wicked and cruel person. He trampled on Edie, a
young girl and walked on without turning back. He also hit Sir Danvers Carew to death in
front of his house. In the end, Hyde was hunted by the police and everyone else. He was
very unhappy and finally, he committed suicide.
Friendship
-Mr. Utterson, Dr. Lanyon and Richard Enfield are Dr. Jekyll’s good friend who value
their friendship and care for him very much. They become very concerned when they saw
the changes in his behavior.
- Dr. Jekyll believed that there are two sides to a person’s character; the good and the bad.
He attempts to follow his hearts desire to separate the good and evil parts in man so that he
can enjoy his evil doing’s without being caught. But his experiment was only successful for
a short while and it brought him discontentment and unhappiness.
Loyalty to Friends
- Dr. Jekyll’s good friends, Mr. Uttreson and Dr. Lanyon cared very much for him. It was
Dr. Jekyll who did not appreciate their friendship and secretly indulged in unlawful
experiments to satisfy his fantasies. However, Dr. Lanyon followed his instructions and
watched Hyde transform. What he saw eventually killed him.

- Dr. Jekyll’s signature on the cheque given to the child’s father raised suspicion linked Mr.
Hyde to Dr.. Jekyll.
• Rising Action
- Mr. Utterson’s concern and curiosity about Mr. Hyde led to face to face confrontation
with Mr. Hyde.
- Mr. Utterson’s persistent inquiry of Mr. Hyde led to an initial misconception that Mr.
Hyde is blackmailing Dr. Jekyll. This is further enhanced by Dr. Jekyll’s refusal to change
the will.
• Climax
- Mr. Utterson went to see Dr. Jekyll after Sir Danver Carew’s death. Dr. Jekyll’s fear that
Mr. Hyde will Dr.ag his name into the murder made Mr. Utterson very suspicious of Dr.
Jekyll’s activities.
- Dr. Lanyon’s fear at the mention of Dr. Jekyll his sudden poor health, the delivery of a
letter and his death; made Mr. Utterson investigate the matter further.
• Falling Action
- Mr. Utterson and Poole found Mr. Hyde dead and Dr. Jekyll missing.
• Resolution
- Mr. Utterson reads Dr. Lanyon’s letter after his death and Dr. Jekyll’s full statement left
in an envelope. These two letters unfold the story of Dr. Jekyll and solve the mystery of
Mr. Hyde.
This story revolves around a person with two different personalities. Dr. Henry Jekyll is
the person with good character and the character who is bad, cruel and wicked is Mr.
Edward Hyde. These two personalities came about because Dr. Jekyll believed that there
are two sides to a person’s character- the good side and the bad side.
As a scientist, he carried out the research to produce a Dr.ug that would change a
person’s character. After his extensive research, he created a potion that could transform
him from Dr. Jekyll into the evil Mr. Edward Hyde.
Mr. Edward Hyde is the evil side of Dr. Jekyll. He is physically, emotionally and
mentally different. As Edward Hyde, he is wild and commits numerous crimes. He roams
the sleazy parts of London town during the nights. When he wants to change into Dr.
Jekyll, he will have to Dr.ink another potion.
Soon, when the Dr.ugs became less effective, Dr. Jekyll lost control of his characters. He
could change into Hyde without Dr.inking the potion in front of other people Jekyll was
torn between the two characters. He hid in his lab to create new Dr.ugs but failed. When he
could not stand it anymore, Edward Hyde committed suicide, killing Dr. Jekyll at the same
time.
Chapter 1
It was two o’clock in the morning when Richard Enfield saw two figures, a man and a
girl walking towards each other and collided. The man trampled on the little girl body
which causes her to scream.
Chapter 2
The little girl who was trampled on a girl named Edie. Her father wanted the cruel man to
pay for causing his little daughter hurt without report to the police. The cruel man named
Mr. Hyde. He agreed to pay 100 pounds. He gave 10 pounds in gold coins and 90 pounds
in cheque. Richard thought that the signature at the cheque seems suspicious which look
Mr. Richard Enfield and his renowned lawyer uncle were having their usual Sunday
afternoon walk when Mr. Richard told him the incident he saw the other day. Shockingly,
his uncle didn’t seem to be surprise about the signature incident which led Richard more
confuse when his uncle refuse to impart any more saying that it was private and
confidential
Chapter 4
Mr. Utterson was worried about the incident his nephew said and quickly took the
Dr.afted will by Dr. Jekyll which stated that if anything happen to him, all his properties
and money be given Edward Hyde. He was unhappy with the will and sought the help of
Dr. Lanyon, Dr. Jekyll old friend. Mr Utterson went to look for Edward Hyde when even
Dr. Lanyon did not know about it. He waited around Edward Hyde house for a few days
and finally found him. Hyde was rude and shouted at Mr. Utterson.
Chapter 5
After meeting, Mr. Hyde, he decided to meet with Dr. Jekyll to talk about Dr. Jekyll’s will
.Unfortunately, Dr. Jekyll was busy and only in a small dinner gathering hosted by Dr.
Jekyll. Mr. Utterson asked Dr. Jekyll about Mr. Hyde .After further discuss Dr. Jekyll
Chapter 6
One evening, a maidservant witnessed the murder of her employer Sir Danver Carew
right in front of his house. The servant saw Mr. Edward asking for directions from Sir
Danver Carew and suddenly he was beaten till death by Mr. Edward. With a cheque stub
that bears Mr. Hyde name, Inspector Newcomen and Mr. Utterson went to the bank to
catch the culprit which they thought will withDr.aw the money. But he wasn’t there.
Chapter 7
Mr. Utterson went to Dr. Jekyll’s lab for the first time. Dr. Jekyll was there and he knew
about Sir Danvers Carew murder. Mr. Utterson asked him if he hid Mr. Hyde .He told Mr.
Utterson that Mr. Hyde gave him a letter. Surprisingly, the handwriting was similar to Dr.
Jekyll as Mr. Guess, the chief clerk identify the hand writing.
Chapter 8
Surprisingly, Mr. Hyde disappears after the death of Sir Danver Carew .Dr. Jekyll had
small dinner gatherings with his good friends and was cheerful. Mr. Utterson was confused
when both Dr. Jekyll and Dr. Lanyon did not want to see each other. A few days after
visiting Dr. Lanyon, Mr. Utterson heard the news Dr. Lanyon was dead and left him an
envelope. There was another envelope stating that he could only open it when Dr. Jekyll
disappeared or died.
Chapter 9
Mr. Enfield and Mr. Utterson were having their usual Sunday walk when they pass the
back door of Dr. Jekyll’s laboratory. They invited him for their Sunday stroll but he
declined. He also apologized that he could not invite them in as the place is crowded.
Suddenly, Dr. Jekyll turned into Mr. Edward Hyde .Mr. Utterson and his nephew was

Mr. Utterson was in his study when Poole, Dr. Jekyll’s servant came to him and told that
his master had locked himself in the laboratory. When they came to knock the door of his
laboratory, an unfamiliar and strange voice answers them. They armed themselves with an
axe and a kitchen porker and an axe. Poole swung the axe and after the 5th blow, the door
broke open. They rushed in and found Mr. Hyde on the floor.
Chapter 11
Mr. Utterson and Poole looked around the house and laboratory for Dr. Jekyll. They
spotted an envelope adDr.essed to Mr. Utterson. He took the envelope and another

Mr. Utterson read the full statement written by Dr. Jekyll which is Dr. Jekyll’s life story
teacher, puan G Shariza Binti Haji Shaharuddin for giving us the opportunity
learned much about the double life of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I also know
better about the places, the interesting events and much more about Dr. Jekyll
