Your task: Choose two pieces of music you are familiar with. Try to choose two songs that are different, for example a slow song and a fast song. Describe the instruments being used, the tempo, dynamics, etc… as well as how the music makes you feel. Also, talk about one instrument in one of the songs that you don’t know anything about or find interesting. Discuss, the musical family it comes from, its origin and what it sounds like. Using bristol board, or using a slideshow (i.e., PowerPoint, Presentations) create a presentation for the class. Some questions to consider in your research include: • • • • • What songs are you choosing and why (song name and artist)? What do the songs sound like: are they slow, fast, quiet, loud, etc…? How do these songs make you feel? What do you think about when you hear them (i.e., a warm summer day at the beach)? Discuss one instrument in one of the pieces of music? Which musical family does it come from? What does it sound like? Commentary – Use musical vocabulary to explain.
Your poster/slideshow must contain the following: • • • • • Pictures of the band or solo artist you chose and the instrument of your choosing. Neatly typed/written paragraphs that indicated effort and editing has taken place. You may include other pictures and/or diagrams. Sample of songs (MP3, CD, etc). A bibliography/references used written on the back of your poster.
