In this coverage scheme, va will tan out and cover thirty y~rds of the tield. Get width and depth simultaneously as you cover in lanes r Lve yards apart. If you come off the L.O.S. and see a teammate crossing in ~ront of you - work to an open lane. Never tollow your own color jersey to the ball. You mu~t sprint full speed until you are six yards from the ball and then break down into hitting position. Always keep propar laverage on the b~ll. Work to keep it in front and on your inside shoulder, then squeeze the ball carrier and tackle high. Therefore the Qoverage lanes are:

Center Perfect snap, sprint to the ball; use ooverage ~rinciple5, hre~k down 6 yards in front o~ receiver.

Upbacks - Rele~se between canter and guard gap after blocking area, sprint to hall breakdown six yards in front and tive yards outside, keep leverage on ball oarrier wi~h inside ShOUlder make tackle.

Guards Block your area of responsibility and sprint to b~ll: use coverage lane principles six yard~ in front and five yar~s outside of upback. You should break down with ball ten yards inside of your alignment before squeezing.

Tackle

Block your area of responsibility a~d sprint to the ball break down six yards in tront and five yards trom guard. You should be fifteen yards ouLside of footb~11, never let anyone outside of your alignme~t s~ee~e ball carrier outside in .

coaching Point: If you b cc cmc point man sprint d i r ec t. 1 y to the ball - make receiver commit himself.

End.s

- Execute blocking tecbbique and sprint directly to tba ball.

K~ke receivers commit tbem5elve~. Rememb~r we must ~ive receiver an opportunity to catch tbe punt. If he Bi~nals for a fair catoh, expect a f~le.

Coaching Point: If you are oontain m~n, execute ~lc~kin~ technique and sprint to ball using coverag-e la.ne principles. Keep leverage on hall aix y~rds in front of you and fifteen yards inside of your alignment. Never letting anyone outside ot your contain.

Full~ack - YOu are the right safety and are responsibl& for oovering fifteen yards behind the 2nd wave - five yards outside our cObtain man on Qutside of the ball.

Punter - You are the left safety and are always ooverinq fifteen

yards behind the 2nd. ~ave - five yards outside our contain lnan.

Me-You contain Calls

Tackle an~ end~ will exchange assignment d~pen~in9 on who is in the mo~t advantageous position to become our point man. Ends maxe esl15.

Calls - Me: Regular coverage principl@s, tackle contain.

You: Call made by ends to tell t~ckle that he is now pOinl man _ go directly to football.

VII.

General Co.~~ing Points:

A. on a short punt the fullhack call1l! ItShort Right" or "Short Lel"t". This alerts the covering teiiUI1 that the ball hil.'i! been kicked short and that they should look up and find the ball. The punt team members should be alert for a return and to down the ball.

E. The ball mu~t be downed ~ith two hands when the fielding team doesn't return the ball.

C. The punt returner must be given a 2 yard cushion on all ~air cushion.

D. The upbacks can close the split of the guar~ if they teel they need help in stepping insid~ rush.

E. The fullback can move to the lett si~e at thA n~nter if he feels that the most pressure will come from th~ left.
