Celebrating the 128th birthday of prolific novelist, short story writer, poet, songwriter, comedy sketch writer, journalist

and creator of arch villain, Fu Manchu, Sax Rohmer! Rohmer, who was born Arthur Henry Ward published his first short story, The Mysterious Mummy in 1903, his first novel Pause! in 1910. His first Fu

Manchu novel, The Mystery of Dr. Fu Manchu was published in England by Methuen in June 1913. Renamed for the US audience as The Insidious Dr. Fu Manchu, it was published as a series of separate stories by The Washington D.C. Evening Star newspaper beginning on October 5, 1913. His first story of that series, The Zayat Kiss, first appeared in the British magazine The Story Teller in October 1912, with it's first US appearance in Collier's Magazine in February 1913. Rohmer saw great success during the 1920's and 1930's, when he reportedly was one of the most widely read and best paid writers in the world. For more information on Sax
