Olivas Dr. Michael A Olivas is the William B Bates Distin- guished Chair in Law at the University of Houston Law Center and Director of the Institute for Higher Education Law and Governance at UH. Dr. Olivas has published in higher education journals and reviews and has served on the editorial board of more than twenty scholarly journals, including The Review of Higher Education, The Journal of College and University Law, and the Journal of Higher Education. Dr. Olivas has been designated as a NACUA Fellow by the National Association of College and University Attorneys. In 2009, he was chosen as President elect of the AALS, and will serve as the President in 2011. Dr. Olivas has been active in local and national service organizations and has chaired the boards of Arte Publico Press and the Public Interest Advocacy Center Scholarship Fund. Dr. Olivas ’ expertise is in academic freedom and faculty tenure matters, as well as finance, admissions, and other areas of higher education law. Further, Dr. Olivas has considerable experience in accreditation matters, both at the Institutional and national levels, having served on the council of the ABA Section on Legal Education and Admission to the Bar and on the Executive Committee of the Association of American Law Schools. Harvard University Press will publish his newest book, Immigration Nation: Plyler v. Doe and the Education of Undocumented Children, in 2010.
