1.

) Welcome
2.) Ask student to introduce what they are reading.
3.) Has anyone here read any of these books? Comments?
4.) Ok, I have a question and I want all of you to answer it somehow:
- this can be presented in many forms. You can begin by talking about what you are
reading and phrase the question as a personal one.
5.) STUDENTS ANSWER - and you make sure that equity is observed by asking
reluctant students to chime in. "What about you, Bob?" and so on.
6.) You then allow students to ask questions, of you and of each other.
7.) You will answer less often in this portion of the conference. They should take up the
slack.
8.) Timely logoff is good - give them a three minute warning and end the conference on
time.

Sometimes it is good to give the students a goal. It is a good time to remind them about
reading every night, etc. Compliment them if they deserve it...
