[Before moving towards what is a share market, let us first get to

know what a ‘share’ is. A share is a share of the total share capital of
the company. Share capital is the initial capital that a company
needs, to start, expand or diversify a company. Because the amount
of the initial share capital is very high, and practically raising that
much fund becomes impossible by an individual or a group of
individuals, the company decides to go public. By completing some
of the formalities like prospectus, etc the company can go public.
A share market is a market where shares are traded which is known
as a secondary share market. Here, shares of those companies are
bought and sold which are listed on a recognized stock exchange in
a country. These shares enter into the market through the primary
market. Shares of the companies are listed through an IPO i.e., Initial
Public Offering in the share market.
And after the process of IPO, those shares are listed on the share
exchange which eventually leads to an entry into the share market.
Now, the shares of those companies can be freely traded through the
exchange.]
