Bow line (Universal Knot

)
This knot can be used as for anchoring and climbing both. As it is easier to learn and serve many purposes, this is usually the very first knot that mountaineers learn.

1)

Make a loop on one side of the rope.

2) Move the moving end of the rope through the loop as shown in the picture. It should be coming from down towards top side.

3) Hold the moving end of the rope and pass it under the running end (as shown).

4) Again hold the moving end of the rope and move it back throug the loop. This is reverse repetition of step 2.

5) Hold the moving hand and running hand pair of rope firmly as shown in the picture. Tight the knot as much possible.

6) Tie a safety knot on moving end of the rope. This is last step to tie bow line knot.
