Community Relations Internship

This internship provides excellent experience in public relations, special events, marketing and
community relations.

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION
 Assist Community Relations Specialist with planning and execution of events such as the
weekly Frederick Market and the annual Miners Day celebration with bands, parade, fireworks,
exhibitor booths, contests, ancillary events
 Responsible for assisting in the development, layout, and design of various promotional
materials, including the monthly community newsletter that is distributed to all residents and
businesses using Adobe Photoshop and InDesign.
 Write news releases, web copy, media pitches, social media updates and more.
 Serve as secondary staff liaison to Board appointed volunteer Commissions including Art in
Public Places Commission, Miners Day Commission, and the Cultural Arts Commission
 Assist with media relations.
 Maintain media database, clip book and photo library.
 Manage picnic shelter reservations
 Other projects as assigned

INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENTS
 Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
 Must be available May through October.
 Must be pursuing a degree in Marketing, Communications or related study.
 Must be able to work individually and with a team.
 Must be available evenings and some Saturdays.
 Must be a creative, proactive and enthusiastic team player with a positive and self-starter
attitude!
 Experience with desktop publishing programs such as Adobe Photoshop and InDesign a
plus.

DATES AND HOURS


May through October (hours vary depending on the month, but will be much less in September
and October, due to school schedules). Hours will include evenings, and a few Saturdays.

WAGE
$2,500 stipend paid out over five months, plus internship credit based on your school’s
requirements
