RE: Online Contract Database

Dear Senator Scarnati and Senator Pileggi:

Thank you for your efforts to ensure that Pennsylvanians have greater access
to information about government contracts and spending. In your letter to Governor
Rendell dated July 23, you encouraged him to include all grant contracts on the
Treasurer’s new PA Contracts e-Library.

I am writing to ask you to apply this same standard of transparency to the

Pennsylvania Senate Republicans’ contracts. Currently, the Senate has no records
available online for public inspection. I hope you will take the lead in voluntarily
posting all of the Senate Republicans’ contracts—including those awarded before
the effective date of the new Open Records law—on the PA Contracts e-Library.

It is our hope that all caucuses will make every contract available to the public
via the Treasurer’snew website. Although the House Republicans and House
Democrats have made a limited number of contracts available for public inspection,
certain contracts (such as those between the House Democratic caucus and
Chadwick Associates) have not been made available online.

I hope I can thank you in advance for taking a leadership role in posting all
contracts of the Pennsylvania Senate Republicans online.
