Morning Discussion [or Dreamtime’s Over]

By Brad McEntire for Emily Woo Zeller

So chilly. But the bed, oh, it’s all toasty and warm. Mountain of blankets. Mmmmmm...

Far off siren song…

(sings bit of Kiss to Build a Dream On:

“Give me a kiss to build a dream on, and my imagination will thrive upon that kiss…”)

Dream time… is over.

Groggy trip downstairs. There he is, staring straight at me, singing. He’s holding my favorite
mug. Pink cartoon pig mug. The mug Jerry gave me before the accident.

(sings:
“Sweetheart, I ask no more than this, a kiss to build a dream on…” )

We’re locked in and he drops the mug.

Dreamtime‘s over.

He’s still just staring, face unchanged.

(Sings:
“Give me a kiss before you leave me, and my imagination will feed my hungry heart…”)

I pick up the broken shard of mug and come in close. The ceramic edge at his neck.

I lean in and whisper “Dreamtime’s over…”
