Arrival
Addis Ababa's Bole International Airport (IATA: ADD), is serviced by several international
airlines with daily flights to Europe, United States, and Asia as well as inter-African destinations
including Accra, Bamako, Brazzaville, Cairo, Dakar, Dar es Salaam, Djibouti, Khartoum, Harare,
Johannesburg, Nairobi and many more cities in Africa.
Upon Arrival an arrangement would be made by the hotel booked or the AU protocol services to
pick participants from the airport. It is important that all participants communicate their arrival and
departure dates prior to their departure from their home country to youth@africa-union.org
Accommodation
Participants are entitled to daily subsistence allowance (DSA) provided by their sponsor. This
should enable all participants to cover their costs for hotel accommodation and 3 (three) daily
meals. Note: the organizer is not providing meals or drinks at any of the occasions except for
coffee and tea breaks.
There is a wide range of hotels available in Addis Ababa (see link: http://www.africa-

Participants are required to have a pre booking upon arrival, which should be communicated with
the organizer prior to their Arrival in Addis Ababa.

Safety: Addis Ababa is considered to be a very safe city at any time of the day. However, it is
important to look out for pickpockets at crowded places. Visitors are advised using common sense
and just like with any big city to avoid flashing cash and jewelry

Transportation: Taxis in Addis Ababa have commonly blue and white color. Prices need to be
negotiated in advance. A medium to short distance travel within the city costs around 50 Birr. The
most common mode of transport among locals are 12 seater mini buses and cost only a fraction to
that of a taxi.
Weather in Addis Ababa
Addis Ababa has a Subtropical highland climate. The city possesses a complex mix of highland
climate zones, with temperature differences of up to 10 °C, depending on elevation and prevailing
wind patterns. The high elevation moderates temperatures year-round, and the city's position near
the equator means that temperatures are very constant from month to month.
