The Perioperative training opportunities offered at St John of God Hospital Subiaco will help you gain the skills and confidence to nurse in this area. Nurses are paid at their substantive level (or the highest level 1 increment for existing level 2 and above nurses) whilst undertaking all St John of God Hospital Subiaco courses.

Introduction to Perioperative Nursing
This seven month program for Registered and Enrolled Nurses is designed to provide intensive training for nurses wishing to focus on the instrument/circulating nurse role. The program targets nurses with minimal Perioperative experience and has the following features: ~ Comprehensive Orientation Program ~ Preceptored time ~ Staff Development support ~ Rotation through specialty areas ~ Study days / forums / self directed learning packages and modules

Introduction to Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) Nursing
This six month program has been designed for Registered Nurses with limited or no PACU experience. The program includes a comprehensive orientation as well as preceptor time working one on one with an experienced PACU nurse in both adult and paediatric recovery. The program is delivered through self directed learning packages, inservices and theoretical modules.

Graduate Diploma in Perioperative Nursing
This 12 month program for Registered Nurses is affiliated with Fremantle Hospital and University of Notre Dame (UND). The aim of this program is to provide a supportive environment where Registered Nurses can become competent perioperative nurses. Participants are employed at St John of God Hospital Subiaco for 54 weeks, subject to their satisfactory academic progress as detailed in the course curriculum. Participants are also enrolled as a student at UND. Participants are employed under the St John of God Healthcare Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA). The program includes a comprehensive orientation period with ongoing preceptor and staff development support with clinical rotations through all specialty areas. Learning and assessment approaches include lectures, workshops, discussion, guided reflection, tutorials, self directed learning, clinical practice assessment and theoretical assessment. Funding is available through St John of God Hospital Subiaco to assist participants.

Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced Nursing (PACU)
This 12 month program for Registered Nurses is affiliated with Edith Cowan University (ECU). The aim of this program is to build on existing PACU nursing skills and to develop specialist Recovery skills within a supportive environment. This course is delivered externally online through ECU and will also include study days, inservices, self directed learning, clinical practice assessment and theoretical assessment. Funding is available through St John of God Hospital Subiaco to assist participants.

Our Operating Suite
There are 17 main operating rooms, being one of the largest private Operating Suites in the Southern Hemisphere. There are 34 PACU / Recovery bays. Presently St John of God Hospital Subiaco cares for over 100 patients per day in Main Theatres and up to 30 patients per day in our Short Stay Unit, which has an additional three operating rooms and a procedure room. All surgical specialties are covered, excluding cardiac surgery and trauma. Both adult and paediatric surgery is performed. Rosters are flexible including early or late shifts. The operating room, recovery and anaesthetic teams contribute towards an on call roster. There are opportunities for permanent full time, part time and casual caregivers with operating rooms functioning Monday to Saturday.

The selection and recruitment process
Applicants may be required to address the selection criteria for their program of choice.
