President’s Report
Another great year at Bourkevale Community Centre is drawing to a close. I think the highlight of the year was the announcement that we are getting a new playground structure. Thank you to Scott Fielding, our city councilor, for working with us to get this done. The old structure was removed in the fall in anticipation of the new structure; however, due to the heavy rains this year the installation was delayed until May 2011. The play structure did arrive and is being stored by the City until the spring installation. Another big highlight is having both rinks open before December this year, despite the 40-something cm of snow. Our rink was open approximately a full week before other St. James rinks were opened. Congratulations to our volunteer ice crew of Jeff Valgardson, Ron Templeton, Ed Toews, Andrew Kelch and Dan Reles! And when it snows, come to the club with your shovel or snowblower to help us clean the ice and grounds. Even with our tractor, it can take over 8 hours to clean up after a significant snowfall! This year we have 4 hockey teams playing out of our club and proudly wearing Bourkevale colours. I am also pleased to report that BCC has recruited new people to its volunteer board. All positions are now filled except for fundraising coordinator. If you interested in this position, please give me a call at 227-1980. The board continues to improve our club’s appearance. Last year we had new floors installed and this year a fresh coat of paint has been applied to the main hall, thanks Judd St. Godard. For 2011 we are looking at installing new kitchen cupboards and replacing the ceiling tiles. Club rentals for birthdays, showers, anniversaries and family gatherings continue to grow to the point that many weekends are booked solid. And with programming every weekday evening except Monday, the club is getting very busy. Finally, thank you to the dedicated members of our board who oversee all the club’s activities and the many volunteers who made 2010 a very successful year. Wishing you a Merry Xmas and a prosperous 2011! Gary Kristiansen, President Bourkevale Community Centre

This new play structure is coming to Bourkevale in Spring 2011!

BCC Program Update
Three popular programs continue this winter at BCC. Moms and Me Playgroup is held every Tuesday from 9:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. This casual gettogether is a chance for neighbourhood parents and toddlers to break the routine and get out for some fun and refreshments. Moms and Me is open each week throughout the holidays. For program information please send an email to judith_maria_farris@yahoo.ca. Have you wanted to start scrapbooking or get back into the groove of scrapbooking but can't seem to find the time or the space to get your projects completed? Come to an all-day Creative Memories Scrapbooking Workshop, held one Saturday each month throughout the winter. Upcoming sessions are January 8 and February 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Advance registration is required, so please call Elaine at 831-6201 to get in on the fun. Tools are available and other scrapbooking supplies can be purchased onsite. Is it dancing? Is it fitness? Or is it just plain fun? Zumba continues at BCC Tuesday and Thursday nights at 7:30 p.m. Zumba has been sweeping North America for months—come find out why. For information call 803-7983 or go to www.zumba.com. Ditch the workout and join the party!

We Salute Past Volunteers!
BCC would like to express its sincere thanks to Pat Jackson, Lori Ostermann and Gillian Goodman for their service to our board and community. Pat Jackson was our volunteer coordinator whom you may remember calling to take a shift at one of our many events. Pat did a great job getting people to help at our events and continues to volunteer at our events. Thank you Pat! Lori Ostermann was our soccer convener and ran a very organized program for our kids. Lori was instrumental in getting mini soccer nets for the 5-6 year old program. On top of her convener duties, Lori also coached one of the soccer teams. Thank you Lori for a great soccer program. In 2005 Gillian Goodman researched, designed and implemented our first website. She diligently maintained and updated this site until the summer of 2010, when we switched to a different platform. Gillian, thank you for your countless hours of time and effort.

BCC Hockey Update
