FIRST CLASS BREAKFAST INITIATIVE TO AWARD MEADE MIDDLE


SCHOOL
GRANT TO IMPROVE SCHOOL “BREAKFAST IN THE
CLASSROOM” PROGRAM

Fort Meade, Md. (April 5, 2011) – On Friday, The Maryland Governor’s Office for
Children and the Partnership to End Childhood Hunger in Maryland will join a diverse
group of county and statewide elected officials, education leaders and corporate
partners to award Meade Middle School a grant to improve their breakfast program
as part of the statewide First Class Breakfast Initiative. The school is one of 21 in
Maryland that is eligible to receive the grant to increase participation in their school
breakfast program.

Event attendees will have the opportunity to observe the school’s Breakfast in the
Classroom program and hear from Rosemary King Johnston, executive director of
the Governor’s Office for Children, who will present Meade Middle School Principal
Bill Goodman a commemorative check denoting the grant award.

WHAT: Ceremony to Present “First Class Breakfast Initiative” Grant to Meade


Middle School and observe breakfast in the classroom

WHEN: Friday, April 8, 2011, 7:45 a.m. ET and doors will open at 7:30 a.m.

WHERE: Meade Middle School, 1103 26th Street, Fort Meade, MD, 20755

WHO:Rosemary King Johnston, Executive Director, Governor’s Office for Children;


Bill Goodman, Principal, Meade Middle School; Jodi Risse, Food and Nutrition
Services Supervisor, Anne Arundel County Public Schools.

OTHER: One-on-one media interviews with program facilitators and


participants, including students, will be available. Good visuals of children eating
breakfast in the classroom.

Event partners include Share Our Strength, the Maryland State Department of
Education, Anne Arundel County Board of Education, Maryland Hunger
Solutions and funding partners Walmart Foundation and Kaiser Permanente
of the Mid-Atlantic States.
