Subject: SMS Media Center Activities for March 2011

The media center facilitated the following activities to benefit students and faculty during the month of
March. The activities listed below are in addition to the library’s routine operations such as checking out
materials, hosting materials, collaborating with teachers and developing the collection.

March 1: We commemorated Women’s History Month by organizing bulletin boards in the main
office and in the main hall.

March 1 – 2: The PTSA and Georgia Association of educators sponsored Arts Day in the media center.
Students were taught to make a collage, paint, be an actor, funny story teller and how
to write better stories and poetry.

March 4 – 5 Ms. Green attended the children’s literature Conference at University of Georgia in
Athens.

March 25: Mrs. Douglas and Mrs. Dawson conducted a staff development for teachers where they
presented on the topic “Web 2.0 and you.”

March 28: Mrs. Dawson spent the day at the media center as an intern. She was trained by both
media specialists. She weeded one section in the fiction collection.

March 29: Mrs. Douglas was trained by both media specialists. She weeded the entire 900 section.

March 31: The media center hosted nationally known storyteller, Kathy Culmer. The media
specialists scheduled two sessions with thirty students each.

Ms. Green, one of the media specialists, announced future poetry reading on April 17,
2011 in Decatur and on Sunday June 25 in College Park.
