What is a report?

• A report is a document which presents specific


focused content , often the result of an
experiment, investigation or enquiry to a
specific audience.
RESEARCH REPORT
• A research report is:
– a written document or oral presentation based on a written
document that communicates the purpose, scope, objective(s),
hypotheses, methodology, findings, limitations and finally,
recommendations of a research project to others.
– The last stage of a marketing research process.;
– It is more than a summary of findings; rather it is a record of the
research process.
• The researcher has to convince the client [and others who
may read the report] that the research findings can be acted
on for their own benefit.

SIGNIFICANCE OF REPORT
WRITING

 Research report is considered a major component of


the research study
 The purpose of research is not well served unless the
findings are made known to others.
 Writing of report is the last step in a research study
and requires a set of skills somewhat different from those
of the earlier stages of the research.
 Utmost care should be taken by the researcher
 He may seek the assistance and guidance of experts
for the purpose.

 The outcomes of research works are to be


conveyed to the end-users or recorded for
future use.
