Overview The holiday that I am doing is the Chinese Lantern Festival.

This fun holiday is celebrated in China and all over the world. It takes place on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month. The fifteenth is the first night of the full moon. Origin Nobody knows exactly who began the Chinese Lantern Festival over 2,000 years ago. There are a few different explanations of how the Chinese Lantern Festival began . Some legends have to do with religious worship, like honoring Buddha. Other legends says the festival began with a homesick maiden named Yuanxiao. Another legennd says that people believed they could see flying spirits in the light of the first full moon of the New Year, so they used lanterns to light up the sky. There are many stories that say it began in different religions or legends. This Festival celebrates people getting along with each other and nature. The lanterns are hung out so the people can enjoy the lanterns when the full moon comes out and the new year starts.
