“Make It Fun”

Fun.Whatdoyouconsiderfun?Tefrstthingsthatcometo
mymindaremyhobbies:cars,cycling,exerciseandfriends.Tis
isit,thisismyfun.Butrecently,Ihavehadtheopportunityto
meetamanwhoexpandedmyideaofwhatfunwas.
DavidDelrahimisasuccessfulbusinessman.Aboutoneyear
ago, he opened Lavaggio Auto Detailing in Agoura Hills (lavag-
gio.net).Lavaggioisbarnone,themostamazingautodetailing
centerandconceptthatIhaveeverexperienced.
IhavebeenfortunatetospendabitoftimewithDavidand
havecometounderstandaparadigmthattomymindisadriv-
ingforceinhislife;“Makeitfun!”Makewhatfun?Work,play,
relationships,makethemallfun.
It took me about fve months of interacting with David to
reallyunderstandwhathemeantby“makeitfun.”Ialwaystried
toincorporatefunintoeverythingIdidbutcouldIreallymake
itallfun?
Uponexploringtheideaof“makeitfun”,Ifoundmyselfen-
joyingmydailytasksmore.Ifoundworkingonmyprojectcars
and staying motivated much easier. I found 8-mile runs, which
wereonceviewedwithasenseofdreadnowachallenge.How?
Makeitfun.HowdoImakeitfun?Formeithastodowithre-
allyacceptingthatworkcanbework,oritcanbefun.Itiswhat
Ichoosetomakeofit.Ithassomethingtodowithreallygoing
theextradistance,thinking“outsideofthebox”,askingyourself,
“howfarcanIgo?”Ithinkithastodowithacceptingachallenge
andgoingatitfullforceandsettingnolimits.
Tis morning, I found myself doing something I haven’t
doneinyears.Iwokeupat4:30amtogosurf.Iamgenerallyup
around 6 am; Sundays even earlier. So to wake up at 4:30am to
gosurfreallyhasn’tsoundedthatfun…….untilnow.Iwokeup
at4:30am,metafriendandwewerethefrstpeopleinthewater.
Temoonwashighandthesunhadyettoriseandtherewewere
inthefreezingcoldPacifc.Wewereshivering,weweretired,we
hadafulldays’loadaheadofusanddamnitwasfun!
Ihavebeentryingtoincorporate“fun”intoeverythingIam
doing. I am now trying to change my paradigm of work into
some type of challenge that will not only yield a better product,
butthatmayenhancemybeing.Perhapsitisallintheapproach,
but I like the idea of this approach, I like the idea of challenges
andgrowing,whilehavingmore………..FUN!
If I may make a suggestion, try to “make it fun” and let me know
how it goes.

most of us non-corvette
ownershave. AZ06,sure.
Amazing performance at an amaz-
ingpricebutstillaCorvette!AZR1,
wow!Abarelythrottledracecarbut
still a Corvette! Te contrast of the
American “Exotic” to the European.
Sure, there is performance but what
about“ftandfnish”andwhatabout
exclusivity? Te Corvette has never
really gotten past that image, or has
it?
TelastCorvetteIdrovewasaC5.
It ofered tremendous performance
at an amazing value but the interior
waslacking,thefnishedproductwas
lackinganditwasjustanextensionof
thethendatedC4.WhenGMcalled
and asked if I wanted to experience
the2011GrandSport,Ithoughtsure
whynot,butitisstillaCorvette.Not
quiteaZR1andevenifitwasaZR1,
itwasstillaCorvette.
I took delivery of the convertible
at the Auto Gallery Ferrari Maserati
DealershipinCalabasas.Surprising-
ly, the Grand Sport seemed at home
with some of the fnest the Italians
have to ofer, interesting. But it was
still a Corvette. As I slid into those
race inspired seats I immediately
took notice of the interior refne-
ments and the superb ft and fnish.
I was impressed. As I pressed the
“Startbutton”,the453HPLS3engine
came alive; it ofered just the right
amount of “cam” without losing the
refnement of a fnely tuned sports
car.DidGMnailit?
Te Grand Sport delivered was
an automatic six-speed, with F1 in-
spired shifing. I lef the Auto Gal-
leryandwasheadedouttoLavaggio
inAgouraHills.AsIenteredthe101
freeway,Iputthepedaldownandthe
Grand Sport took of! WOW! With
approximately 400hp to the ground
the Vette ROARED onto the free-
way. Ok, a great standing start how
about passing power? Cruising at
65mph, I hit the gas; the six-speed
automatic“blips”thethrottle,thecar
downshifsandrocketsaway.Ifthis
is a naturally aspirated LS3, the ZR1
must be frightening fast. Is a Cor-
vettejustaCorvette?
Over the course of the week, I
found myself saying, “I am not a
Corvette guy, but……what a nice
car.” Heather, sitting passenger said
thesamething:“IamnotaCorvette
person,but,thisisnice…”,whichfor
both of us turned into: “wow, this is
an amazing vehicle.” I found myself
wondering,wouldIdriveaCorvette?
WouldIdriveaGrandSport?HaveI
hadthewrongideaonCorvettesthis
entiretime?PerhapsIamaCorvette
guy?
Having the car for a week, I
stopped by all my local shops to
showthecarofandseetheresponse.
Overwhelmingly, the car received
rave reviews. I was stunned. Tere
was something about the Grand
Sportthatgrabbedallwhosawit.
I came across some cyclists I
know in Westlake. Tey could not
believe how “hot” the car was. One
of them knew everything about the
Grand Sport, quoting all the stats.
Tewide-bodyandZ06splittersand
functional air ducts really make a
stunning statement. Again, I keep
questioning,“AmIaCorvetteGuy?”
Performance
TusfarIwasimpressedwiththe
LS3.Ithasanexcellentsix-speedau-
tomatic transmission, great ft and
fnish,seatwarmers,andtechnology.
ButwhataboutZ06sizedbrakesand
suspension? Cruising one of my fa-
vorite canyons I found the Grand
Sportefortlesslycapable.TeGrand
Sportissofnelytunedthatyouhave
instant confdence and can fnd
yourself going a little too fast. Not
thattheCorvettecouldn’ttakemore,
butwasIgoingtorunoutoftalent?
Again, the shifing was instant, the
suspensionhuggedandgrabbedand
thebrakes,theystop!Inthehandsof
aproperracertheGrandSportcould
undoubtedlykeepupwithjustabout
anyproductioncarofitscaliberand
some of those considered above.
And,youcandrivethiscareveryday.
Overall, I found the Grand Sport
unexpectedly amazing. Would I
drive a Grand Sport? In a heartbeat.
Would I recommend the Grand
Sport?Absolutely.WouldIsuggest
yougodriveoneifyouhaven’t?Hell
yes.Inmyopinion,GMhasnailed
it.
