Pre-counselling programmes in May

The Hindu-EducationPlus will organise a series of pre-counselling guidance programmes in Kerala in early May for students seeking admission to courses in various professional streams. Registrations will start soon. Entry will be free, but seats may be limited. Advance registration is strongly recommended. This is being done for the eighth successive year, since 2004 — the year EducationPlus was launched as a separate weekly supplement with The Hindu in Kerala. The programmes, featuring half-day sessions on the professional streams, are scheduled at Kannur on May 4, Kozhikode on May 5, Kochi on May 6, and Thiruvananthapuram on May 10. An ‘Education Expo', with about 25 stalls, featuring the education-related offerings of various organisations, will be open from 9.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. as part of the events in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi. One of the highlights of the ‘The Hindu-EducationPlus Fair 2011 – Sessions on Professional Streams and Education Expo' will be a special focus on the changes in the admission procedure involving the inclusion of marks in the Plus Two examinations and the process of normalisation. Besides, marking a unique partnership, IT@School, the Communication Partner for the event, will record the programme at Thiruvananthapuram and telecast it subsequently through the VICTERS channel to extend the reach of the event. Apart from an overview of the key courses and the career and course options before the students, the sessions will focus on strategies relating to the online seat allotment process conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations. A perspective on the engineering stream will be a highlight. The panel of experts and officials being lined up at each of the sessions will lend them authenticity and authoritativeness while ensuring accessibility. Participants will have an opportunity to put questions to a panel of experts at an extended interactive session that is being introduced. A handbook with detailed information on courses will be provided to each participant. Apart from helping students gain clarity on the different courses on offer, it will offer suggestions on what students have to keep in mind while seeking admission to professional courses.
