can you suggest me how to install ASM instance with
11g R2 software ? Oracle ACE Director
I don't need grid software as a whole.
My goal is to set standalone DB based on ASM storage. Oracle ACE Member
In database server software (DBCA) I cannot choose
"create ASM instance" . It's not there. Oracle Employee ACE
So I suppose I need to install some of grid software. But
which part of it is sufficient that allows to configure ASM Java Champion
afterwards??

Automatic Storage Management

In previous releases, Oracle Automatic Storage

Management (Oracle ASM) was installed as part of the
Oracle Database installation. With Oracle Database 11g
Release 2 (11.2), Automatic Storage Management is part of
an Oracle grid infrastructure installation, either for a
cluster, or for a standalone server.

If you want to upgrade an existing Automatic Storage

Management installation, then you must upgrade Automatic
Storage Management by running an Oracle grid
infrastructure upgrade. If you do not have Automatic
Storage Management installed and you want to use
Automatic Storage Management as your storage option,
then you must complete an Oracle grid infrastructure
installation before you start your Oracle Database
installation.

Hi, First you must create raw device,for this you can use
diskpart or another utilits to create partition and do not
these paritions,Then using asmtool or asmtoolg to stamp
the disk with a header.And you can create ASM instance
with DBCA or manually

there are options:

From 11.2 onwards, ASM installation needs as a mandatory

thing Grid Infrastructure. So if you want ASM,there can't be
any thing else which you cna do except installing the Grid
Infrastructure. The ASM maintenance has been removed
from DBCA and is given now inthe ASMCA(ASM
Configuration Assistant) which can only be run from Gird
Infra home. So in short, the answer for your question is
that you must install Grid Infrastructure if you want ASM ,
be it Windows or whatever o/s.
