Villanelle Oh, get me away from here, I’m dying of apathy. Depression’s hard; it seems I’m falling short.

But not for lack of trying to sell off all the bullshit I’ve been buying, before my girl unearths it with her screams. Oh, get me away from here, I’m dying to know another hemisphere. Relying on faded maps remembered in a dream, I’m falling short. But not for lack of trying another and another highway, crying, “Is this the land of honeycombs and cream?” Oh, get me away from here, I’m dying. And all the while my friends have been untying my sneakers, scouting for the other team. I’ve fallen, sure. But not for lack of trying my hand at something really hard, like rhyming. The best words, like undo, don’t fit the scheme. Somebody get me away from here; I’m dying. I’ve fallen short, but not for lack of trying. —Luke M. Rickford, 10/10/2006

°The first line was taken from the song “Get Me Away From Here, I’m Dying” by Belle and Sebastian.
