Gathering together to paint has become such a part of my routine that I can scarcly imagine doing anything else every other Thursday. The Crest Club House is sunny and bright and our group of painters are such a supportive and encouraging group that I look forward to every session. I'm often amazed at the work turned out by my peers with such creativity and talent. Even on days when just getting up and going is hard - thinking about the feeling I have when there is enough to get me out the door and on my way. One of the wonderful things about Marie's classes was her spirit of support and encouragement and her even greater desire to bring out the best in all her students.
While we, Marie's Painters, are not teaching, we do carry on her tradition of help and support in the name of art. I think Marie would be so proud of what we are doing at Crest Community Center.

the idea was to do three levels of depth in a piece, or three different fields of focus. A lesson might be to paint a subject in monochromatic to test our ability
to see value. Another .!! .. ~~-~--. was to vary the surface

grounds. Sometimes we would use saw dust to create the texture we might add to a landscape. The ideas were never ending and we all appreciated the effort she put forth every week, year after year to keep us stimulated and our minds moving. We are now carrying on the dream of Marie to express artistically and individually as well as uniquely in our class.
By Jane Swan:
Marie was a teacher passionate in her own expression of art. Marie wanted very much to assist every one of her students
in finding their own expression in painting. Her specialty was in ideas and techniques. Though I know Marie herself did many styles in the years she painted, her favorite was abstract art. Her colors were bright and alive and expressive. She had a way of bringing out the best artist in everyone. She
had such passion for art and creating that there was a new idea presented every week in her classes. Sometimes

A bit of Crest Clubhousg History
In the 1920's there was a family, who lived here, by the name of Cornelius. This family was a large land owner in the Crest area. There was
a need for a gathering place for the community so they let the Women's club use the small
house on this piece of property indefinitely. As time went on the name changed a

The Del Cerro Gallery featured a fantastic display of Collage art.
The results of last summers collage workshop, held at Georgina Clemens home were displayed at Dr. Grosmark's Del Cerro Dental Office and Gallery. A reception was held on the 15th of January and was attended by a very appreciative crowd of visitors. Several paintings were sold during the show which remained at the gal-
lery until February 12th. It was a great success.

By Sandy Garman:
Everyone who participated in our Batik workshop had a great time. Spending time creating Batik paintings is wonderfully rewarding. One never really know for sure how the proj ect will turn out until the ironing is done. Even then you may paint on top and realize still more wonderful and sometimes surprising effects. The image emerges layer by layer of
waxing and painting and, sometimes it's too easy to get so into what you're doing that you go too far and
then it's .into the dog-bin! So you save the
piece and use bits of it for collage! There's no end to creativity in art and Batik is a uniquely creative art form. What a wonderful way to spend a day -- or even two!"
