A typical MS- Word package has the following features. 1. Document Creation: A word processor can create two types of files:document and non-document 2. Cursor control: The cursor enables the word user to identify an area of text where he wants to make changes. 3. Document status: The status line displays the name of the file being edited, the current position of cursor such as column, row and page no., and the status of insert, font etc. 4. Document saving: The word automatically save the document typed by the user when asked by, besides saving, it also offer the facility of saving and resuming editing. 5. Scrolling: Scrolling means moving the text up or down. it is necessary in such cases where the length of document is more than the size of the computer monitor’s screen. 6. Insertion: Just like deletion, charcters, words, sentences, paragraphs, and even pages can be inserted anywhere in the text, at the position of cursor. 7. Block coping: A block is continous text can be copied from one part of a document toanother or from one dpcument to another. 8. File reading: The user can read the contents of a file already existing on the disk. 9. Search: Word can search for specified word in a document being edited. 10. Mail Merge: A very common need in many offices is to send the letter to a no. of parties, making appropriate changes for name and address. The examples includes business reply letters, call lettersfor interview and q noticefor a meeting. 11. Protecting files: Most o f the word supporta feature to protect the files of the user, so that they are not accidentallychanged or erased. 12. Formatting: Spacing, margins, right, left and center justification, page numbering, paragraph reforming etc. can be set and changed at any time.
