Saint Joseph School
I am a student at St. Joseph School and have been asked to give my opinion about whether there should be seatbelts on the buses of Connecticut or not. I think that there should not be seatbelts because there are an overwhelming number of negative things that need to be taken into consideration when thinking about this. Though the death of the teenager should not have happened, 15 out of 16 students survived a 20-foot fall off of an embankment. Based on this, I would say the safety of that bus was fairly good. First I would like to talk about behavior problems. Seatbelts could be used as weapons, and who would monitor the kids? Unless you get a monitor, which would either require volunteering or paying them, adding
a seatbelt would be useful. . then the bus driver would have to get up after every stop to check the students.another cost to this already expensive safety project. it could be a good plan. If there were a fire then it would be very hard to get everyone out especially with smoke. If you did not have a monitor. I hope whatever you do you choose wisely. Another problem would be falling off a ravine (which has happened) and drowning. Second thing that would be a problem is in the case of an evacuation. I think if you are willing to put the money and effort in. However in the case of the bus flipping with no fire.
