Central province has been grappling with issues of high levels of insecurity, drug abuse,

poverty, raise of unlawful sects and Environmental degradation for the past few years. The
youth especially those in age bracket 14-30 who account for 34% of Central province
population has been greatly affected.

These problems have been attributed to ignorance, mismanagement of community resources,

lack of employment and problems in leadership where youth are not involved in the
community development processes.

For the national development to be achieved the youth should be integrated into the process.
This recognition played part in the development of the national youth policy. Although often
sidelined from playing a key role in development, the untapped potential of the youth can
contribute greatly to growth of society if well harnessed. The youth should be made aware of
the opportunities that exist for developing leadership skills and exploiting their potential.
Youth can also be very critical in ensuring social accountability and hence reducing of
corruption.

But this can only be achieved by creating an environment where there is transparency, free
flow of information and where youth voice is heard.
