RECOMMENDATION: Discontinue the Economic Development and Development, the Sports and Recreation, Policies, Procedures, and General Plan/Circulation, Budget and Capital Improvements and Motel Issues Working Groups. BACKGROUND: At the City Council meeting of January 18, 2011, the City Council approved the creation of one or more ad-hoc City Council Working Groups. Those groups included the Economic Development and Development, the Sports and Recreation, Policies, Procedures, and General Plan/Circulation, the Budget and Capital Improvements, and the Motel Issues Working Groups (Attachment 1). These Working Groups were tasked with reviewing ideas and concepts along with staff in a more preliminary and informal manner before an idea or topic is presented to the full City Council at either a Study Session or regular City Council meeting. The City Council would also entrust a Working Group with additional responsibility to review ideas and discuss concepts in an informal setting. Such ad-hoc Working Groups would also be able to provide some leadership or guidance on an issue that would enable staff to further develop and design a particular policy question in preparation for review and action by the full City Council. The above-described Working Groups have met and have provided their assistance, and as such, are no longer required. If the formation of ad-hoc working groups is needed in the future, staff will bring the request back to the City Council for consideration.
