Subject: Bring S 3237/A 4407 for a vote Dear Assemblyman _____, I urge you to take immediate action to ensure that S 3237/A 4407 will come to a vote before the end of the session. Time is running out, and the animals of New York, who are forced to participate in fighting, need us. We need to stop animal fighting in New York. Increasing the penalty for those who attend the fights is the best way to prevent fights from occurring. S 3237/A 4407 seeks to do just that. Participating in animal fighting, including acting as a spectator, will be punishable by a felony. Currently, felony penalties for animal fighting are applicable only to certain participants; for example, those who cause or train the animals to fight can be charged with a felony. Currently, spectators at animal fighting are only charged with a misdemeanor. Under current law, law enforcement is required to prove that the spectator has paid admission or made a wager on an animal fight. If S 3237/A 4407 becomes law, law enforcement will only have to prove that the spectator was knowingly present at the fight. This is a much easier standard to establish. This bill has already passed the Senate by a vote of 60-1. Please give the Assembly the chance to vote on this bill to help law enforcement and the animals of New York. Let New York join the twenty other states who have made activity related to animal fighting punishable by a felony. Dont let the animals in our state be left behind. Sincerely, ______
