Analytic assessment:

Valdemar: Use of language (vocabulary) = fluent, varied. Makes quite a few transfer errors from L1 to L2 Spelling = accurate, impeccable Syntax = some errors of misplacement of the subject and verb, doesnt make a lot of punctuations and puts in too many commas, some prepositional errors (e.i.I have been climbing in 5 years, instead of for) Grammar = switches back and forth between present time and past tense. Misses the ed in the past tense on the verb to climb and yet remembers it on other occasions. Overall assessment: Student writes in a cohesive language, shows great understanding of the learning objectives for the task (the genre-writing and the inclusion of some of the information and words provided in the text), and engages enthusiastically in the task. There are, however, some transfer errors (L1 to L2), and some misusage of the gerund tense. The language is good, but a bit unbalanced, repeated. Final grading = 7 Nico: Use of language (vocabulary) = too many transfer errors from the L1 to L2. If the person reading the essay isnt a Danish native speaker, they would lose track of the context of the story. A lot of repetition and use of the same words. Spelling = misspells many fundamental words (prepositions, verbs, personal nouns) Syntax = many break downs of sentence, due to misplacement of subject and verb. Uses a lot of commas instead of full stops. Grammar = uses almost only the present tense. Forgets the -ed endings indicating past tenses. Wrong use of personal nouns (my instead of me). Uses is for plural (i.e. are) Overall assessment: Student makes too many transfer errors from the mother tongue. The lexical frequency is very low and there is a lot of repetition. The student seems far from expected average level of a grade 9 (expected acquired vocabulary, 3 000 when graduating). He does, however, engages in the story and shows great understanding of the genre of the task. Final grading = 02 Stephanie: Use of language (vocabulary) = expresses herself almost fluently and varies her vocabulary. Very few transfer errors Spelling = impeccable. Nothing to mention what so ever Syntax = shows a great proficiency area of syntactic competence. Makes a few mistakes that a native speaker would understand none of the less.

Grammar = knows how to distinguish between presence, past, participle, future and the gerund. Furthermore, the student knows almost to perfection how to put commas and punctuation. Overall assessment: The student shows a great linguistic knowledge, using a variety of words and expressing herself in almost perfect fluent English. With minor errors and syntactic mistakes of smaller significance, she shows a profound understanding of the task and the genre and she engages completely in the process. Final grading = 10 Karsten: Use of language (vocabulary) = expresses himself fluently and with great variety. Makes no transfer errors and uses different kinds of languages: colloquial and formal Spelling = nothing to comment on Syntax = constructs perfect sentences and has a clear conception of the English language. Misses a few commas but knows how to put in full stops. Grammar = almost nothing to comment on. A few mistakes with plural form, but nothing grave Overall assessment: The student expresses himself clearly and in a fluent language. He balances perfectly between correct usage of the tenses and engages himself enthusiastically in the task, fulfilling the learning objectives to perfection Final grading = 12
