STATEMENT OF THE UNITED WA STATE PARTY CONCERNING THE PRESENT SITUATION IN MYANMAR 2011, June 16 Since the beginning

of 2011, unremitting armed clashes between the government forces and the

armed forces of KNU, SSA and KIA have occurred and have created loss of lives and injuries among the people as well as turbulences in the country. Deeply concerned about this situation, the United Wa State Party issue this statement. Continuous growth of conflicts is not

conducive either to the maintenance of lasting peace and stability in the nation or to finding solution to the existing contradictions among the various nationalities. Moreover, it is contrary to the spirit of the speech concerning works on the borderland given by His Majesty President

Thein Sein on April 23, 2011. The UWSA would like to express our hope that His Majesty President Thein Sein would check the government forces who are waging attacks against the ethnic forces and would like to request the

under the control of the government. We expect all sides to exercise greatest restraint, attach utmost importance to the lasting peace and

stability in the nation and solve the problems peacefully on the table. We firmly believe out that the once all concerned of seeking
