A People of Hope

Archbishop Timothy Dolan in Conversation with John L.
Allen Jr.

One of the world's most respected religion journalists profiles New York's
Archbishop Timothy Dolan, the country's most important Catholic leader in
decades--and possibly in the world--through lengthy exclusive interviews
and through in-depth research.

Archbishop Timothy Dolan is the era's most compelling American Catholic
personality and the lone figure who not only rivals, but could surpass, the
importance of any previous Church leader in influence on the country's almost 70
million Catholics. At just 59 years old, Dolan is poised to be the de facto leader
and spokesperson of the American Catholic Church for an entire generation.
Certain to become a cardinal in the near future, Dolan is also quite possibly the
first American who could be a serious candidate to become pope. It is then perfect
timing for John Allen's serious but highly readable profile of Dolan and his growing
influence for the millions of Americans who already know about him, and introduce
him to those who don't.

Key Points/Quotes

AUTHOR CREDIBILITY AND VISIBILITY: John Allen is the most respected
Vatican journalist in the United States. He writes for the National Catholic
Reporter and is a Vatican analyst for CNN and NPR and frequent commentator for
the Today show. His insider knowledge of the politics of the Catholic Church and
the Vatican is unparalleled. Papal biographer George Weigel calls Allen "the best
Anglophone Vatican reporter ever."

INSIDER ACCESS: Allen has known Dolan for many years and will have
exclusive insider access to Dolan with a series of lengthy one-on-one interviews
as part of his research.

COMMERCIAL STYLE: John Allen has an engaging, commercial style of writing
which immediately opens up his work to an audience far beyond that for typical
religion nonfiction.

REGIONAL APPEAL: In addition to Dolan's appeal as a national figure, this book
will be strong in particular regions, such as St. Louis (Dolan's hometown),
Milwaukee (where he was previously archbishop), and obviously New York.

About the Author/Illustrator

The Future Church

How Ten Trends Are Revolutionizing the Catholic Church

John L. Allen, Jr.

One of the world's foremost religion journalists offers an unexpected and
provocative look at where the Catholic Church is headed--and what the
changes will mean for all of us.

What will the Catholic Church be like in 100 years? Will there be a woman
pope? Will the Catholic Church have any standing in Europe? Will dioceses
throughout the U.S. and the rest of the world go bankrupt from years of scandal?
Will a South American Indian pope be performing public exorcisms in St. Peter's
Square? In The Future Church, one of the world's foremost religion journalists
puts forward his calculations and predictions for where the Church is headed in
the 22nd century in a book that general readers and anyone interested in religion
will find essential reading.

Key Points/Quotes

SUCCESS OF THE HARDCOVER: We received good reviews for the hardcover
and have sold over 16,000 copies to date.

MADE FOR SOUND-BITE MATERIAL: John's list of the 10 trends in the Catholic
Church easily lends itself to review and media coverage, discussion, and debate.

AUTHOR CREDIBILITY AND VISIBILITY: John Allen is the most respected
Vatican journalist in the United States. He writes for the National Catholic
Reporter, is a Vatican analyst for CNN and NPR and frequent commentator for the
Today show. His insider knowledge of the politics of the Catholic Church and the
Vatican is unparalleled.

COMMERCIAL STYLE: John Allen has an engaging, commercial style of writing
that immediately opens up his work to an audience far beyond that for typical
religion nonfiction. The Future Church is fascinating general nonfiction perfectly
suited to a wide readership.

Praise for The Future Church:

"Allen provides reasonable food for thought in this intriguing must-read for all
church watchers." --Booklist

Night of the Confessor

Christian Faith in an Age of Uncertainty

Tomás Halík

Tomás Halík is a wise guide for the post-Christian era, and never more so
than in his latest work, a thought-provoking and powerful reflection on the
relationship between faith, paradox, change, and resurrection.

As the challenges of cultural secularization and dwindling religious
communities confront North America and Europe, Tomás Halík is a prophetic
voice of hope. He lived through the intolerance of religion that defined communist
Czechoslovakia, and he reminds readers that ours is not the first era to see faith
challenged and that crisis leads to deeper understanding. Christianity's central
messages have always seemed impossible, from peace and forgiveness in the
face of a harsh world, to love and self-sacrifice despite human selfishness, to the
victory of resurrection through the defeat of the cross. Acceptance of paradox
therefore is the way forward, he explains. It is a difficult way that offers an unclear
immediate future, yet it is an honest way that alone can offer peace in this age.

Key Points/Quotes

AUTHOR PROFILE: Tomás Halík is highly regarded throughout the world as a
philosopher and priest. In his native Czech Republic he has been active in
government, working with former president Václav Havel. He was awarded the
prize of the Czech Literary Fund in 2006 for the best literary work of the year, in
2010 he received the Romano Guardini Prize for outstanding merits in interpreting
contemporary society, and he has lectured at Oxford, Cambridge, the United
Nations, and numerous American universities.

FRESH: Brian McLaren and Harvey Cox have drawn strong readerships with their
reflections on the decline of the established Christian churches, and the same
blend of engaged Catholic, mainline, and emergent readers will embrace this book
as a uniquely clear look at the postmodern face of Christianity.

ELOQUENT: While he addresses difficult questions, Halík's writing remains
personal and expressive, with strong appeal to the readership of Ronald
Rolheiser's The Holy Longing and Henri Nouwen's The Wounded Healer.

About the Author/Illustrator

Author Residence: Prague, Czech Republic

Author Hometown: Prague, Czech Republic

TOMÁS HALÍK is a Czech public intellectual, Roman Catholic priest, and scholar.
Active in the "underground church" during the communist period, he suffered
political persecution and was banned from teaching at university and travelling
abroad. After the fall of Communism, he served as General Secretary to the
Czech Conference of Bishops, and was an external advisors to former Czech
president Václav Havel. He is currently professor of sociology at Charles
University, president of the Czech Christian Academy, and a member of the
European Academy of Sciences and Arts.

Where There Is Love, There Is God

Her Path to Closer Union with God and Greater Love for
Others

Mother Teresa

As with Mother Teresa: Come Be My Light, Where There Is Love, There Is
God contains all previously unpublished material and gives a
comprehensive sense of the spirituality of Mother Teresa. It is a complement
to the spiritual struggle represented in
Come Be My Light, showing the
profoundly inspirational words and teachings of Mother Teresa.

Taken from private, unpublished talks, this book is the first time Mother
Teresa's spiritual teachings are shared with the public. Organized into themes and
easily read cover-to-cover or consulted on particular topics, Where There Is Love,
There Is God has appealled to readers both as an inspirational read and as a
guide to greater closeness with God.

Key Points/Quotes

MOTHER TERESA: COME BE MY LIGHT: Our previous Mother Teresa title has
sold over 250,000 copies and spent several weeks on the New York Times list,
reaching as high as #2 on hardcover nonfiction. It was the subject of extensive
media coverage, including a cover story in Time magazine, coverage on the
Today show, Good Morning America, and The Colbert Report.

SIMPLE PATH SPIRIT: This work represents the inspiring spirituality of Mother
Teresa, much like the Times bestseller A Simple Path did, though now with a
greater depth of material.

UNIQUE CONTENT: As with Come Be My Light, the writings of Mother Teresa
that make up this inspiring book have never previously been publicly revealed.

BELOVED FIGURE: Mother Teresa remains one of the very few contemporary
figures beloved by Catholics from all points of view, progressive to conservative.
Likewise, her straightforward but profound spirituality has many admirers in all
religions.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT: This work has been put together through Mother
Teresa's closest associates, particularly Father Brian Kolodiejchuk, who is in
charge of the cause of Mother Teresa's sainthood.

About the Author/Illustrator

MOTHER TERESA (1910-1997) was born in Skopje (present-day Macedonia),
and joined the Sisters of Loreto in Dublin in 1928. She left the Loreto order in
1948 to begin the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta. Her service to the poorest of
the poor became her life's work. She was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979
and was beatified in 2003. Editor of Mother Teresa: Come Be My Light, FATHER
BRIAN KOLODIEJCHUK, M.C., Ph.D., was associated with Mother Teresa for 20
years and is now director of the Mother Teresa Center, which has offices in
California, Mexico, India, and Italy.

Wish You Were Here

Travels Through Loss and Hope

Amy Welborn

In this intensely personal memoir, author Amy Welborn tells the
heartbreaking but ultimately inspiring story of her journey to Sicily with
three of her children in the wake of her husband's sudden death.

Following the loss of her husband to a heart attack, Amy Welborn journeyed
through the small towns and ancient ruins of Italy's most famous island and in the
process opened unexpected doors of memory and reflection, undergoing a
pilgrimage of the heart and an exploration of her soul.

Key Points/Quotes

WELL CONNECTED: Amy Welborn is a beloved author in Catholic circles and a
popular, well-connected blogger and commentator
(http://AmyWelborn.wordpress.com). We can count on the support of Catholic
media outlets as well as high-profile clergy. In addition, we have high hopes that
the material is powerful enough to cross over into the general trade as well.

MEMOIR OF LOSS: Like Joan Didion's The Year of Magical Thinking and Calvin
Trillin's memoir About Alice, this book is an examination of grief with a spiritual
element added to it. Wish You Were Here offers hope, wit, and warmth to those
coping with the death of a loved one.

THE IMPORTANCE OF RELATIONSHIPS: How well do we know the people we
love? What is really important in our lives? Do our relationships endure beyond
the grave? Welborn's reflections dive into these questions, probing deeply into the
bonds between husbands and wives, mothers and children, and the human and
the divine.

About the Author/Illustrator

Author Residence: Birmingham, Alabama

AMY WELBORN has written for Our Sunday Visitor, Catholic News Service,
Beliefnet, the New York Times, and Commonweal. She has five children and lives
in Birmingham, Alabama.

Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the
Eucharist

Unlocking the Secrets of the Last Supper

Brant Pitre

For fans of Scott Hahn's work comes this thought-provoking examination of
the Eucharist and its origins in ancient Hebrew tradition

In this insightful book, Dr. Brant Pitre shines the light of the Old Testament and
ancient Judaism on the words and deeds of Jesus to reveal the historical and
theological roots of the Eucharist. Using his in-depth knowledge of Judaism at the
time of Jesus, Dr. Pitre shows how the Jewish hope for a New Exodus and the
coming of the Messiah in first-century Palestine correlates to the very Communion
Catholics participate in today.

Key Points/Quotes

NEW AND ACCESSIBLE WRITER AND SCHOLAR: Because of his distinct
insights and his straightforward ability to communicate with disparate audiences,
Brant Pitre is one of the most exciting Catholic scholars in this generation.

BOLD PREMISE: Brant's examination of the Jewish roots at the heart of the
Catholic Mass is a provocative work that will generate considerable buzz in
Catholic markets and beyond.

ACTIVE AUTHOR: As well as being a much-in-demand professor, Brant also
lectures around the country on a regular basis.

TIMING: Publishing to coincide with both Passover and Easter.

SUPPORT FROM SCOTT HAHN: Bestselling author Scott Hahn has written a
preface to this book.

Praise for Brant Pitre:

"Clear, profound and practical--you do not want to miss this book." --Dr. Scott
Hahn, author of The Lamb's Supper and Signs of Life

About the Author/Illustrator

Author Residence: New Orleans, Louisiana

BRANT PITRE, professor of sacred scripture at Notre Dame Seminary in New
Orleans, Louisiana, received his Ph.D. in New Testament and ancient Judaism
from the University of Notre Dame, Indiana. He is the author of Jesus, the

The Philosopher's God

One Nation Under Who?

Kevin Seamus Hasson

THE PHILOSPHER'S GOD proposes a brilliant resolution to the age old--and
increasingly volatile--dispute about the balance of Church and State.

Perhaps the most divisive issue in our country today is whether there is any
basis for "God" having any presence in the official life of the United States. In this
new work, Kevin Hasson--a religious freedoms attorney who has argued cases in
front of the U.S. Supreme Court--offers a possible resolution to this tension by
explaining that the concept of "the Philosopher's God."
"The Philosopher's God" is a basic conception of God not based on faith but on
reason. This is not the God of Abraham or any other religion but the God of
Aristotle and Einstein. It is the God that is recognized in the Declaration of
Independence as the "Creator" who has endowed its citizens with "certain
unalienable Rights." The state did not give citizens rights--most everyone
(whatever their religious belief) regards these rights as coming from a "higher
authority."

This philosphical understanding of "God" underlies the founding of the United
States and is still essential today. Recognizing this, citizens may now be able to
move past the religion/anti-religion-fueled culture war that has plagued the country.

Key Points/Quotes

UNIQUE APPROACH TO CHURCH AND STATE ISSUE Hasson approaches a
whole host of issues (re: the pledge of allegiance, prayer at public events, prayer
in school) which have deeply divided the nation with a point of view that is novel
and possibly a way forward for a strong majority of Americans.

STRONG PUBLIC PRESENCE Kevin Hasson, as head of the Beckett Fund, is
often in the public eye on issues related to religion and public life. He represents
all religious points of view in supporting the right to freedom of religious
expression.

The Right to Be Wrong

Ending the Culture War Over Religion in America

Kevin Seamus Hasson

In our current culture war, how can we balance different views on the role of
religion in our common life without surrendering our principles? Drawing on
history, philosophy, and common sense, The Right to Be Wrong provides a
path forward for our divided time.

In the running feud we call the "culture wars," there exists a great debate over
religious diversity. One side demands that only their true religion be allowed in the
public square; the other insists that no religions ever belong there. The Right to Be
Wrong offers a solution, drawing its lessons from a series of stories--both
contemporary and historical--that illustrates the struggle to define religious
freedom. The book concludes that freedom for all is guaranteed by the truth about
each of us: Our common humanity entitles us to freedom--within broad limits--to
follow what we believe to be true as our consciences say we must, even if our
consciences are mistaken. Thus, we can respect others' freedom when we're sure
they're wrong. In truth, they have the right to be wrong.

Key Points/Quotes

FOUNDER AND CHAIRMAN OF THE BECKET FUND FOR RELIGIOUS
LIBERTY
: Hasson and his fund are very well known for arguing cases on freedom
of religion, including in front of the Supreme Court.

DIVERSE AUDIENCE: Although Hasson receives strong support in the
conservative movement, with whom he is very popular and respected, the content
of the book argues vigorously for true freedom of religion, and therefore he has
very strong allies from all religious traditions.

NEW MATERIAL: The paperback edition of The Right to Be Wrong has been
updated to address the latest legal developments and most current issues of
religious freedom.

The Inner River

A Pilgrimage to the Heart of Christian Spirituality

Kyriacos C. Markides

In Kyriacos C. Markides's latest work, Eastern Orthodox mysticism once
again meets Western Christianity as the internationally renowned author
takes readers on a mind-expanding, soul-deepening, journey to the very
roots of an authentic spirituality.

Inner River continues Markides's spiritual quest into the teachings of Eastern
Christianity that have been chronicled in such bestselling books as the Mountain
of Silence and Gifts of the Desert. In an engaging combination of dialogues,
reflections, conversations, history, and travelogue, the author connects ancient
spiritual practices and our modern sensibilities of the soul. Along the way he
poses and answers questions about life, death, near death experiences,
consciousness beyond the grave, and the struggles of a purely material existence.

Key Points/Quotes

ORTHODOX MARKET: There are more than 5 million members of the Orthodox
church in America (225 million worldwide). There is also a renewal of interest in
Orthodoxy from non-Orthodox spiritual seekers.

UNIVERSAL/CATHOLIC AUDIENCE: The Greek Orthodox tradition has
contributed to many people's spiritual practices over the last century, and this
book's spritual message will appeal to readers of many faiths, particularly Catholic
readers.

WELL-CONNECTED AUTHOR: Markides is a well-known figure in spirituality and
lectures, and leads workshops across the country. His popularity has grown
considerably over the last few years and his books are staples in Orthodox,
Catholic, and Human Potential bookstores.

The Pope Who Quit

A True Medieval Tale of Mystery, Death, and Salvation

Jon Sweeney

In this fascinating tale of mystery, lies, and deceit, acclaimed author Jon
Sweeney tells the largely unknown story of a 13th century monk who would,
against his will, be elected pope and five months later nearly bring the
papacy to its knees.

At the close of the tumultuous Middle Ages, there lived a man who seemed
destined from birth to save the world. His name was Peter Morrone, a monk,
founder of a religious order, and, depending on who you talk to, a reformer, an
instigator, a prophet, a coward, a saint, and possibly the victim of murder. A stroke
of fate would, practically overnight, transform this humble servant of God into the
most powerful man in the Catholic Church. Half a year later, he would be the only
pope in history to abdicate the Chair of Peter. What lead him to make that
decision and what happened afterward would be shrouded in mystery for
centuries.
The Pope Who Quit pulls back the veil of secrecy on this dramatic time in history
and showcases a story that involves deadly dealings, apocalyptic maneuverings,
and papal intrigue.

Key Points/Quotes

RESPECTED AUTHOR: Jon Sweeny has been hailed by everyone from Walter
Wangerin to Publishers Weekly, to PBS's Religion & Ethics Newsweekly.

BRINGS HISTORY ALIVE: This is an intelligent, captivating narrative history that
has great cross-over potential.

STILL IN THE NEWS: From Dan Brown's Angels & Demons to a recent
earthquake in Italy, to the current Pope's veiled references to possible retirement
from the papacy, this story of the only pope to ever quit his job is still referenced
and talked about today.

one of the most respected leaders in this growing field.

Strength for Today combines uplifting stories and the personal experiences of

Key Points/Quotes

GROWING AUDIENCE: With the aging of the population and the challenge of

responsibility of caring for older parents and relatives in the home, and according
to AARP there are currently 65.7 million caregivers in the United States.

AUTHOR PLATFORM: With her husband, Paul, Lori Hogan runs Home Instead
Senior Care, the largest senior care business of its kind in the world. With over
850 franchise offices they have a strong network that directly reaches the home
caregiver audience, and their organization will be supporting the book with its
extensive resources. Additionally, Lori speaks widely on home care issues, and
the Home Instead Caring Connections email blast goes out weekly to thousands
of readers.

UNIQUE CONCEPT: Strength for Today is the first-ever book completely
dedicated to providing inspiration to home caregivers. Lori has an insider's view of
the needs of caregivers and Strength for Today addresses caregiving at every
level, from the emotional and spiritual challenges to practical questions about
senior care.

About the Author/Illustrator

after Paul's family experienced the challenge of caring for his grandmother. Home
Instead has provided services to half a million clients through a network of 850
franchise offices located in the U.S. and 15 other countries or markets, including
Japan, Canada, Portugal, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, the U.K.,
Taiwan, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Finland, South Korea and Puerto Rico.

The Way to Love

Anthony De Mello

Bestselling author Anthony de Mello's brilliant guide to the ultimate
questions of understanding and love, The Way to Love is a modern spiritual
classic, now beautifully repackaged and in trade paperback for the first time
ever.

In 31 meditations, beloved teacher Anthony de Mello implores his readers with
his usual pithiness to break through illusion, the great obstacle to love. "Love
springs from awareness," he insists, saying that it is only when we see others as
they are that we can begin to really love. But not only must we seek to see others
with clarity, we must examine ourselves without misconception. The task,
however, is not easy. "The most painful act," de Mello says, "is the act of seeing.
But in that act of seeing that love is born."

Key Points/Quotes

BESTSELLER: In its hardcover and pocket editions, The Way To Love has over
300,000 copies in print, maintaining its immense popularity year after year.

BROAD APPEAL: Even over two decades after his untimely death, Anthony de
Mello remains one of the world's most popular spiritual writers. His inclusive style
draws on both his training as a Catholic priest and the diverse spiritual heritage of
his native India, giving him appeal to a broad range of audiences from moderate
and progressive Catholics, to readers of Eastern mysticism, to the new age,
self-help, and general spirituality markets.

ANNIVERSARY: 2012 marks the 25th anniversary of Anthony de Mello's passing,
a milestone that provides extensive opportunities to celebrate his wisdom and his
legacy.

All the Way to Heaven

The Selected Letters of Dorothy Day

Dorothy Day

Dorothy Day, cofounder of the Catholic Worker movement, has been called
the most significant, interesting, and influential person in the history of
American Catholicism. Now the publication of her letters, previously sealed
for 25 years after her death and meticulously selected by Robert Ellsberg,
offers an extraordinary look at her daily struggles, her hopes, and her
unwavering faith.

This volume, drawing on Dorothy Day's personal papers, offers a fascinating
chronicle of her response to the vast changes in America, the Church, and the
wider world. Set against the backdrop of the Depression, World War II, the Cold
War, Vatican II, Vietnam, and the protests of the 1960s and '70s, she
corresponded with a wide range of friends, colleagues, family members, and
well-known figures such as Thomas Merton, Daniel Berrigan, César Chávez, Allen
Ginsberg, Katherine Anne Porter, and Francis Cardinal Spellman, shedding light
on the deepest yearnings of her heart.

Key Points/Quotes

IMPORTANT FIGURE IN 20TH-CENTURY CATHOLICISM: Dorothy Day is seen
by many as the embodiment of a modern-day saint in action. She is revered
across the wide spectrum of American and Global Catholicism. Scholars and lay
readers will benefit from this close-up and personal walk with one of the 20th
century's great Catholic figures.

AN INTIMATE PORTRAIT: These letters are, at their core, a story of a
decades-long spiritual journey and will have wide appeal not only to those
interested in Day herself but those in search of spiritual renewal.

ROBERT ELLSBERG: Editor Robert Ellsberg (author of The Saint's Guide to
Happiness) is one of the most respected names in Catholic publishing and is an
expert on the life of Dorothy Day. He is well-connected in the marketplace, and
the trade version of this book will get quite a lot of attention

Praise for All the Way to Heaven:

Hell, Rob Bell, and What Happens
When People Die

Bobby Conway

This eBook exclusive offers a succinct, biblical, and orthodox evangelical
response to Love Wins, author Rob Bell's controversial, best-selling book.

Rob Bell says that in the end "love wins," but what if hell is as real a place as
heaven? And, at death, who goes where...and why? Dr. Bobby Conway, a pastor
and recognized authority on Christian apologetics, delivers a compelling defense
of what the church has believed for centuries about hell and the afterlife. This
concise, carefully constructed argument answers questions like these: "Can love
win and hell still exist?" "Is God a God of wrath or not?" "Can you be a universalist
and call yourself a Christian?" "Is hell eternal? If so, is there a way out?" In Love
Wins, questions like these often provoke more confusion than clarity. In this book
Dr. Conway shows that the cross and Jesus' sacrifice is about a love that triumphs
in the end--with heaven as the prize and eternal destination.

Key Points/Quotes

AUTHOR'S INTERNET PLATFORM: Dr. Bobby Conway, known as the "One
Minute Apologist," engagingly defends Christian faith at
www.youtube.com/oneminuteapologist.

PASSIONATE BUT COMPASSIONATE TONE: Author makes a strong case but
is respectful to Rob Bell.

BIBLICALLY & INTELLECTUALLY RESPONSIBLE: Based on what Scripture
teaches, not speculation about what "God might be up to." Author rigorously
draws on other sources to substantiate material.

INCLUDES MATERIAL ON HEAVEN: Not just a polemic on incorrect ideas about
hell, this book describes heaven, too.

IDEAL FOR USE BY PASTORS: This eBook is a resource for pastors needing a
tool to educate church members on many questions raised recently about the
afterlife. Includes hot links to other relevant online websites.

Fatal Distractions: Conquering
Destructive Temptations

Kay Arthur, David and BJ Lawson

Through this six-week, no-homework study, Christians of all ages will learn
how to arm themselves against six common sins that are fatal to a person's
spiritual progress.

While there's no such thing as a "little" sin, certain sins hold the power to
undermine a Christian's spiritual growth in subtle yet deadly ways. Fear, Pride,
Anger, Immorality, Greed, and Despair inevitably bring sorrow--but the Bible
shows how individuals can protect themselves and avoid giving room to any of
these in their lives.

Key Points/Quotes

Spiritual Warfare: Overcoming the
Enemy

Kay Arthur, David and BJ Lawson

Readers of all ages will learn how to arm themselves for battle with their
spiritual enemy in this six-week, no-homework study.

The Bible clearly shows that every one of us lives in the midst of a spiritual
battle, whether or not we realize it. The first rule of battle is this: know your enemy.
A thorough knowledge of the opponent's strength, his probable line of attack, and
his tactics are vital to achieving victory. In this six-week study, readers will dig into
the Bible to discover for themselves the truth about the devil. They'll gain the
battle-ready perspective and tools they need to stand firm against the enemy and
walk daily in victory.

About the Author/Illustrator

Author Residence: Bainbridge Island, WA

LEONARD SWEET, PhD, teaches at Drew University in Madison, NJ, and at
George Fox University in Oregon. He is the leading social critic, cultural observer,
and prognosticator in the evangelical Christian world. Before anyone else started
talking about the emerging church or postmodern faith, Sweet was writing wise,
provocative books that changed the thinking of Christians across the
English-speaking world. He is known especially for the celebrated works The
Gospel According to Starbucks, Soul Tsunami, and SoulSalsa. Sweet travels
constantly, speaking at conferences, colleges and seminaries, and influential

Boy Meets Girl

Say Hello to Courtship

Joshua Harris

From the author of the runaway bestseller I Kissed Dating Goodbye comes
the book about what to do when Boy Meets Girl.

What comes between "How do you do?" and "I do"? How do you find a lifetime
partner in a way that's God-centered, not self-centered? Boy Meets Girl is an
honest, romantic, and refreshingly biblical look at courtship. It's about dating with a
purpose. About friendship plus possibility. About romance chaperoned by wisdom.
In this book, the author asks questions like: Is "courting" more holy than "dating"?
In a relationship what's the best thing you can do with your lips? How can
Christians committed to "waiting" view their sex drive as good? Would you be in
trouble if you got pulled over by a "courtship cop"? Join the guy who "kissed
dating goodbye"...and say hello to courtship.

Key Points/Quotes

NEW FOR THIS EDITION: The author is adding a new introduction, along with a
new small-group discussion guide.

BESTSELLING AUTHOR: Joshua's life-to-date sales with Multnomah exceed one
and a half million units; he has earned the trust of Christian consumers, pastors,
and educators.

of churches. In addition to his name recognition inside the home schooling
movement, he is the founder of the NEXT conferences and is regularly featured at
events sponsored by Passion, Acts 29, and The Gospel Coalition--all leading
forces in the fast-growing New Reformed movement.

WIDE APPEAL: With the release of Dug Down Deep, Harris is earning praise
from a wide demographic as an appealing contemporary writer who delivers
theological substance. The book was described by a reviewer recently as "a lovely
cross between Augustine's Confessions and Wayne Grudem's Systematic
Theology."

A New Attitude Toward Relationships and Romance

better--thriving friendships, purity, and purposeful singleness. He urges readers to
ask questions such as: "Does your relationship hinder you from serving God?"
and, "Do you give yourself away physically or emotionally in ways you later
regret?"

The Necessity of an Enemy

How the Battle You Face Is Your Best Opportunity

Ron Carpenter

In everyone's journey to reach life goals--whether it's a satisfying
relationship, career opportunity, financial stability, or other desired
outcom--enemies are as necessary as friends.

When individuals commit to what God wants them to be and do in life, that's
when an enemy shows up. Enemies bring tests that build strength, expose
weaknesses that demand correction, and help turn lethargy into energized
creativity. Human nature is such that opposition and testing are necessary to bring
out a person's best qualities. Often the challenge comes from an "opponent" being
used by God to "promote" individuals to the next stage of their future, for example
in the biblical story of the Israelites leaving Egypt. Understanding the nature--and
necessity--of enemies is the key to greater personal maturity and success in
achieving God's plans.

Key Points/Quotes

FRESH INSIGHTS reveal how a person should welcome an enemy's appearance
because it signals the coming of new personal growth and opportunity.

SCRIPTURE UNDERGIRDS all of the book's key themes--"For our light and
momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them
all" (2 Corinthians 4:17).

AUTHOR'S PLATFORM: Ron Carpenter pastors Redemption World Outreach
Center, a mega-church (17,000 members) that enjoys a stellar reputation among
a broad spectrum of community and media leaders at local, state, and national
levels.

A WEEKLY TV PROGRAM originating in the author's church, Redemption Today
airs widely via TBN in the U.S. and abroad.

ONLINE COMMUNITY: Author has an estimated 40,000 people intersecting with
him via social networks/blogs.

About the Author/Illustrator

Author Residence: Greenville, South Carolina

Author Hometown: Possum Kingdom, South Carolina

RON CARPENTER, senior pastor of Redemption World Outreach Center in
Greenville, South Carolina, is recognized worldwide as a leader of leaders. As
both a senior pastor and an entrepreneur, Ron's relentless passion for developing
potential in others permeates his organization. After graduation from Emmanuel
College, Ron and his wife, Hope, founded their church in 1991 with three
members and a passion for breaking down walls of racism, crossing cultural lines,
and changing poverty mindsets.

Not This Time

A Novel

Vicki Hinze

Award-winning author Vicki Hinze explores the volatile nature of friendship,
romantic, and business relationships in this heart-pounding novel.

women becomes almost unbearable for Beth. Tension rises even more when
Sara's husband goes missing and is presumed dead--and Beth appears guilty of
his murder. In her attempt to prove herself innocent and help Sara see the truth,
Beth calls on Joe, a former special ops member and a man she loves though she
knows she shouldn't. Together, they discover an international link to NINA, the
most feared terrorist group in the world, and realize that the head of this group is
among their closest friends. But which one? Uncovering the truth creates havoc,
and in its ravages comes love and truth so pure it proves that no one is ever too
damaged to find redemption. No one is beyond God's healing touch.

Finding Our Way Home

A Novel

Charlene Ann Baumbich

Two very opposite women sharing life under one small Minnesota roof. Can
their differences be overcome? Or is it possible that they are more alike
than they imagined?

Prima ballerina Sasha Davis has suffered a career-ending injury, she has left
her husband, and she sees no silver lining to this dark cloud, shadowing her
future. She has left Boston and returned to the small town she grew up in, moving
into her recently deceased mother's home. Nineteen-year-old Evelyn Burt is young
and in love--so much so that she is willing to throw off a college future for a simple
life with the town's bad boy. For her the world is all sunshine, possibilities, and
bright tomorrows. When Evelyn moves into Sasha's home to care for the injured
dancer, their opposing perspectives appear to threaten any hope of cooperation
and friendship and may just convince Sasha to become even more reclusive. Will
their combined knowledge and emotional resources be enough to see them each
through a series of unexpected revelations? Or will they both learn that only grace
can carry them? Second chances arrive in many packages and sometimes in the
most unlikely pairing.

Key Points/Quotes

AUTHOR OF THE BELOVED DEAREST DOROTHY SERIES: Often likened to
the novels of Lynn Hinton and Jan Karon, the six books in the Dearest Dorothy
series, with total sales well over the 100,000 mark, have been called "quirky and
charming" with "laugh-out-loud moments" and "gentle inspiration."

THEMES OF GRACE AND SECOND CHANCES: Like Charlene's two recent
novels, Finding Our Way Home is about second chances and the lavishness of
grace.

INSIDE PEEK INTO THE WORLD OF PROFESSIONAL BALLET: In the novel,
Sasha Davis and Donald Major are professional ballet dancers, providing readers
with a rare glimpse into romanticized, artistic life.

Praise for Charlene Ann Baumbich

"Charlene Ann Baumbich has crafted a heartwarming story that reminds us of what really
matters." --Beth Hoffman, best-selling author of Saving CeeCee Honeycutt
"Stray Affections is a story so joyous and so magical that it should come with a warning
label: Do not pick up this book unless you, lke Cassie and the unforgettable characters
who are part of her world, are prepared for a journey that will change your life!"
--Cassandra King, author of The Sunday Wife

Eye of the Sword

A Novel

Karyn Henley

Eye of the Sword, the second book in The Angelaeon Circle, follows a young
hero with a shadowed past as he embarks on a sweeping quest to prove his
worth to the woman he loves--and to himself.

Trevin is forced to leave Melaia alone to battle with the advances of a
swaggering Dregmoorian prince while he undertakes the king's quest to solve the
mystery of the missing comains and find the harps that will restore the angels'
stairway to heaven. Determined not to fail, Trevin tracks an elusive angel, finds
himself falsely accused of a heinous crime, and comes to realize that the greatest
obstacle he must overcome are the demons surfacing from his past.

Key Points/Quotes

APPEALS TO TWEENS, TEENS, AND ADULTS: Eye of the Sword is for readers
of young adult fantasy, ages 12 and up. Because of the engaging story telling, like
many other fantasy novels for this demographic, there is strong potential to
expand to and include an adult readership.

BEST-SELLING AUTHOR: Karyn Henley wrote the original Beginner's Bible,
which has sold very successfully over the last twenty years through both Christian
and general market retailers. Though this series is clearly for a different audience,
she has the name recognition to garner attention. She is an enthusiastic promoter.

VIBRANT FANTASY GENRE: YA fiction with fantastical or supernatural twists
has been one of the few consistent growth areas in the past ten years in books.
This is a YA fantasy with a powerful mythology, strong good-versus-evil battle,
and lyrical atmospheric writing.

Praise for Breath of Angel

"This author infuses her text with imagery, suspense, and a cast that will appeal to all
ages...I think it's destined to become a classic." --Kathi Appelt, author of The Underneath,
National Book Award finalist, Newbery Honor Book

About the Author/Illustrator

Author Residence: Nashville, TN

KARYN HENLEY is a graduate of Vermont College's prestigious Writing for
Children and Young Adults program, a bestselling children's book author, and an
Emmy-Award winning musician who is very much a part of the Christian

million copies and was translated into 17 languages. An accomplished songwriter,

The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived

Secrets for Unparalleled Success from the Life of Jesus

Steven K. Scott

Top-selling author Steven K. Scott inspires readers with practical lessons
on success from Jesus's life on earth. Jesus's model of leadership,
influence, team-building, and communication are unsurpassed.

Christians sometimes concentrate so closely on Christ's spiritual message that
they miss the powerful lessons to be learned from studying the way he lived. The
example of Jesus's daily life on earth holds the keys to success for entrepreneurs,
professionals, business people, pastors, teachers, leaders in any field, and those
who mentor or coach others. Jesus's example shows how to get your message
across; how to identify the most critical missions; how to focus effort where it will
have the greatest impact; how to increase your value to a team or organization;
how to influence and lead others; and how to cross over from being
"purpose-driven" to consistently being "mission-accomplished."

Key Points/Quotes

TIRELESS PROMOTER: Steven K. Scott is a one-man selling machine. His book
The Greatest Words Ever Spoken has been promoted several times on Glenn
Beck's radio program.

LEARN SUCCESS FROM THE MASTER: Personal success grows out of
effective influence and leadership, and no one modeled that more powerfully than
Jesus, whose life changed the world.

FIVE KEYS TO SUCCESS: Find ultimate meaning that motivates. Discover the
eternal mission that moves you. Learn the message that communicates with force.
Practice the method that works miracles. Move from purpose-driven to
mission-accomplished.

BONUS CONTENT: First time in trade paperback and featuring a new discussion
guide. Great for employee training, personal inspiration, church study groups, and
as a gift to donors, board members, clients.

The Fourth Fisherman

How Three Mexican Fishermen Who Came Back from
the Dead Changed My Life and Saved My Marriage

Joe Kissack

Two stories, in different parts of the world, which ultimately intersect. Both
are about being adrift--one literally adrift on the Pacific, the other spiritually
adrift in the empty world of Hollywood.

The true story of tres pescadores (three fishermen) who were rescued near
Australia after drifting 5,500 miles across the Pacific for nine months in an
eight-meter boat. One of the few items that remained after the terrible storm that
disabled their boat was a Bible. They survived on "raw fish, rainwater, and their
faith in God." At the same time Joe Kissack, noted Hollywood TV and film
producer, found his own life adrift as his extraordinary career crumbled in
wreckage around him. Reaching out from his own spiritual lostness, Joe sought to
connect with the three fisherman following their amazing ordeal. The Fourth
Fisherman is the inspirational true account of these two remarkable stories of
physical and spiritual salvation and how they ultimately came together through
faith in God.

Key Points/Quotes

INSPIRATIONAL STORY: A story of amazing survival. Three men stranded on
the ocean and one stranded in an unfulfilling life and how faith is just what they
needed to survive.

PLATFORM: Joe Kissack is a strong self-promoter with an aggressive speaking
schedule in churches and leadership conferences. As an incredibly successful
Hollywood and TV producer, he is well respected and known in those circles.

FORTHCOMING MOVIE TIE-IN: Cannes Film Festival award-winning director
Spiros Statholoupolous is one of a Hollywood team of people committed to making
the film version of the book.

About the Author/Illustrator

Author Residence: Atlanta, GA

JOE KISSACK is a speaker, author, screenwriter, film and television producer,
publisher, and entrepreneur. He has worked on a farm, cleaned out refrigerated
swinging beef trucks, and served as a senior executive at Sony Pictures. A
sought-after speaker, his speaking engagements often include charitable events,
churches, and business conferences. He lives in Atlanta with his wife of 25 years,
Carmen, and their two daughters.

What Matters Most

Reclaiming Your Relationship with Jesus from Religion

Leonard Sweet

How did Christians get the point but miss the Person?

God made us for relationship, for up-close engagement. We are designed for
the give-and-take of deep relationships with other people and with God. God
wants to be known, not just known about, and that requires trust. Belief is
intellectual assent, while trust is action. It is the difference between thinking about
Jesus and going out and following him. The daily practice of faith--versus the
settledness of mere belief--will open your life to unimagined possibilities. It is that
difference that Leonard Sweet explores in What Matters Most.

Key Points/Quotes

NEW EDITION WITH BONUS CONTENT: Includes an exclusive author interview
on how to overcome the disconnect between Jesus and the church. Previously
released in hardcover as Out of the Question...Into the Mystery. Now available for
the first time in trade paper and eBook editions.

TIMELY ANALYSIS: While Christians are divided over the appropriateness of
questioning certain beliefs, Leonard Sweet argues that what God is most
interested in is meaningful engagement between people and God. A relationship
with God is lived out in a daily experience, not won or lost in arguments over
doctrinal details.

CONTROVERSIAL: Sweet calls for a biblical balance between the settled
revelation of scripture and the ongoing pursuit of God. He contends that Jesus
wants most of all a living relationship with his followers.

PRACTICAL: Points out blind spots and failures in the church, but links the
critique to concrete solutions.

About the Author/Illustrator

Author Residence: Bainbridge Island, WA

Author Hometown: West Virginia

LEONARD SWEET, PhD, teaches at Drew University in Madison, NJ, and at
George Fox University in Oregon. He is the leading social critic, cultural observer,
and prognosticator in the evangelical Christian world. Before anyone else started
talking about the emerging church or postmodern faith, Sweet was writing wise,
provocative books that changed the thinking of Christians across the
English-speaking world. He is known especially for the celebrated works The
Gospel According to Starbucks, Soul Tsunami, and SoulSalsa. Sweet travels
constantly, speaking at conferences, colleges and seminaries, and influential
churches. Many of America's most visible mega-church pastors credit Sweet with
shifting their focus away from numbers and record-keeping and toward the heart
of ministry expressed in a biblical, culturally relevant way.

How the Digital Shift Changes Everything for Christians,
the Church, and the Future

Leonard Sweet

The most widely respected Christian cultural critic and trend analyst has
identified the last, best hope for the church in America. And it's not who you
think it is.

Why do younger Christians prefer an iPhone to a hymnal or a kneeler? Why is
playing chess with someone in Australia via the Internet more appealing than
sitting in a pew to listen to a 30-minute sermon? How is it that Facebook has
attracted 550 million people who will never see one another, when the average
church can't get a pew-full of believers between 18 and 32 to show up in person?
Leonard Sweet knows the answer, and it has nothing to do with young Americans
holding onto childhood, or being overly self-involved, or not wanting to give up
their pet sins. Instead, he says, the problem is that the church has held fast to the
Gutenberg model, while the rest of the world has gone digital. The digital
generation is driven to create community in every possible way, and when they
don't find connection in the church they leave the church in favor of authentic
relationships outside it. Gutenbergers, it turns out, are unequalled when it comes
to building buildings, but not when the need is to create community.

Key Points/Quotes

COMPELLING ANALYSIS: Leonard Sweet argues that the Google generation, by
acting on the human longing for connection and acceptance, holds the greatest
potential to connect with Jesus on his terms.

LIVELY AND CONTROVERSIAL: Sweet contends that the Protestant church has
not progressed much beyond its 16th century origins. Meanwhile, the world at
large is seeking the values of Jesus: belonging, connection, involvement,
community, and relationship.

PRACTICAL: Appeals to younger Christians (18-34) who chafe at the static
church world, and to church leaders who seek solutions to the loss of members
and the failure of words, rules, and ritual to change the world.

The Pressure's Off

Breaking Free from Rules and Performance

Larry Crabb

Christians, like everyone else, expend great effort in trying to make life
work. But God has a better plan.

Assuming ultimate responsibility for your life and how things work out is the
natural thing to do. It's also a major frustration and a guaranteed waste of time.
The human impulse is to do everything possible to overcome problems and
ensure success. Following that impulse might work for a while, but you can't fix
your life over the long haul. God does not promise success as it is defined in
human terms. Instead, Jesus assured his followers that life would bring setbacks
and loss. In place of earthly success, God gives us himself and invites us to hand
over control of our lives. We stop trying to make the universe work, and in
exchange we receive peace and the enjoyment of knowing God more deeply.
Letting God take over relieves the pressure.

Key Points/Quotes

NOW WITH A BONUS--WORKBOOK INCLUDED: A $24 value for 16.99! The
popular church and small-group study guide now comes as part of the package.

THE BEST-SELLING AUTHOR of more than 22 books, Larry Crabb is a
respected name among Christian readers, with nearly 300,000 units in print,
combined, of his WaterBrook Press titles alone.

A WHITE-HOT MESSAGE: With the ascendancy of Reformed theology, the
"sovereignty of God" message implicit in The Pressure's Off should find a large
and enthusiastic audience.

Praise for Larry Crabb:

"I look on [Larry Crabb] as an advance scout in places I have yet to venture." --Philip
Yancey
"...a compelling narrative that shows how we have imprisoned ourselves..." --Cal
Thomas, author and syndicated columnist

The Next Christians

How a New Generation Is Restoring the Faith

Gabe Lyons

In this provocative book, now in paperback, a rising star in the Christian
world looks ahead to what the next century will bring for Christians
everywhere.

In the wake of his stunning book, unChristian, which broke news on the
growing disenchantment younger generations have Christianity, Gabe Lyons now
looks at the end of the existing Christian era and shows how the Church must
change to remain relevant. Lyons, who has become an active participant in public
discussions about the future of Christianity, describes what he sees as the end of
Christian America and expands on why recent generations of Christians feel their
faith is too packaged, dishonest, and inauthentic. Instead, the term "Christian" has
been reduced to a voting block for political strategy and a consumer market to be
tapped.

Lyons describes six fundamental qualities that, if observed, make him
confident that the Church's best years may well be yet to come. Lyons describes
the next big shift in Christianity--leaving behind some of what's been practiced for
generations and undertaking a great relearning, a restoration of the core values
that will define The Next Christians.

Where Lilacs Still Bloom

A Novel

Jane Kirkpatrick

Award-winning author Jane Kirkpatrick brings readers another riveting
fictional account of a real pioneer housewife whose love for flowers
changed the lives of those around her.

In the early 1900s, housewife Hulda Klager reads a book that changes her life
forever, leading her to develop over 200 new varieties of lilacs that she gives away
or sells to individuals as a way of sharing beauty. Her commitment to
creation--struggling against flooding rivers and the vagaries of hybrid plants--while
living through family losses and challenges is a story of perseverance and
generosity that culminates when, in a time of great need, the people who Hulda
gifted with beauty return to her life to help her start over.

Key Points/Quotes

BASED ON A REMARKABLE TRUE STORY: Hulda Klager's story was told to
Jane Kirkpatrick by one of her descendants. This remarkable German housewife
taught herself how to breed hybrid plants, making a significant mark on the
horticultural world and changing the lives of those around her with her generosity.

BELOVED, AWARD-WINNING AUTHOR: Jane's works have been finalists for
the Christy and Spur literary awards, and she's won the WILLA Literary Award and
Wrangler Award. A Flickering Light was one of Library Journal's Best Books of
2009.

THEMES OF GENEROSITY AND BEAUTY: Where Lilacs Still Bloom is a story of
hardiness, and of giving to others without expectation of receiving, and of having
the gifts returned ten-fold.

Praise for Jane Kirkpatrick:

"Kirkpatrick is a master at using fiction to illuminate history's truths. This beautiful and
compelling work of historical fiction deserves the widest possible audience." --Publishers'
Weekly about The Daughter's Walk
"Jane Kirkpatrick is a wonderful writer who creates a story full of strong, admirable
characters with human flaws." --Francine Rivers, best-selling author
"Jane embraces the finest qualities of the human spirit in all her writing. One of America's
favorite storytellers." --Sandra Dallas, author of Prayers for Sale

About the Author/Illustrator

Author Residence: Bend, OR

After 26 years living on Starvation Lane on a remote ranch in Oregon, JANE
KIRKPATRICK and her husband, Jerry, moved back to Bend, Oregon, where
they'd lived years before. Two dogs and a formerly outdoor cat made the
transition well as they begin a new life next to a lily pond instead of the John Day
River. Where Lilacs Still Bloom is Jane's twenty-second book, her nineteenth
novel. She has two lilacs from Hulda's garden.
