Traffic Resources Dimensioning

VisMin RNO

Importance:
Improve efficiency utilization of resources. Minimize congestion. Exact calculation of required traffic
resources.

2 Types Congestion
A. Congestion due to traffic growth this
define that the offered traffic of available timeslot is not enough and needs an upgrade. B. Congestion due to low availability this is brought by the hardware faults and unused timeslots.

Optimization: Congestion due to Traffic

Check if it is trending, if it is trending, may consider upgrading the cell. If
not, observe another 2 days. Check if cell is in a LAC border, may consider adjusting CRH parameter (SDCCH). Check if all necessary neighbors are defined, hence, undefined neighbors can help the deloading serving cell. Verify cells coverage, may consider downtilting. Check cells utilization, upgrading resources through additional HR TCH timeslots. Upgrade SDCCH resource, recompute TCH utilization, setting a maximum of 50 % DTHNAMR.

Utilization Computation
Utilization: a. Compute for cells traffic: S/T_TRAF = ave ( t_traf_pk max of the week T_TRAF max of the weekly ( t_traf_pk ) = query R10_KPI_PK = max of 7 days = average of 4 weeks ( the same computation with S_TRAF)

b. Compute for cells Utilization: TCH = CONFIG * 8 FPDCH SDCCH/8 - BCCH T_OFFERED = N Erlang (2% GOS) S_OFFERED = N Erlang (0.5 % GOS) Utilization = Traffic / Offered * 100 % - note, utilization maybe greater than 100% since offered is fixed at defined GOS. c. For cells which has utilization is greater than 100% must be upgraded.

TCH and SDCCH Upgrade

In dimensioning, Static SDCCH must be dimensioned first, this is due to SDCCH adjustments will be in expense of TCH resource. SDCCH required (RSDCCH): Use ERLANG B Tool ( NPFUN), 0.5% GOS and traffic based on previously computed traffic (peak). TCH required (RTCH): Use ERLANG B Tool ( NPFUN), 2% GOS and traffic based on previously computed traffic (peak). Is RSDCCH > SDCCH: yes: Compute for allowable TCH to SDCCH, allowable reduction at 50% DTHNAMR maximum. T-TCH = TCH * 1.5 , maximum TCH (round down) STCH = T-TCH RTCH T, maximum TCH that can be converted to SDCCH TS. if STCH > (RSDCCH SDCCH)/8, then New SDCCH = RSDCCH if STCH < (RSDCCH SDCCH)/8, then New SDCCH/8 = SDCCH/8 + 1 - penalize cell, Adjust CRO, PT, MSRXMIN, ACCMIN Note: 1. Maximum SDCCH that can be defined in a cell is 2 SDCCH/TRX 2. If cells LAPD is MPLEX16, SDCCHmax = 1 TRX

Continuation..

 DTHNAMR Computation:
DTHNAMR = (RTCH New TCH) / (New TCH) * 100 % For negative DTHNAMR, this must be set to 10 % minimum as a buffer for any traffic peaks.

Things to Remember
A. 1.
SDCCH: Set maximum of 2 SDCCH at CHGR0 and define at time slot number (TN) 2 and 3 only, this will assure a complete PSET for ONDEMAND PDCH in CHGR0.
Recommendation: (this is still subject for verification and testing) FPDCHALLOC = FIRST CHALLOC = 1

2. 3. 4. 5.

Set remaining SDCCH at CHGR1, and TN=2, if ISC feature will be used, define TN=2&&3. For Now Adaptive Configuration of Logical Channels (ACLC) is not yet considered. It is advisable to allocate SDCCH resources at channel group with high interference since SDCCH is more resistant to interference. LAPD signaling must be considered, MPLEX16 has a maximum of 1 SDCCH/TRX only, all others can use 2 SDCCH/TRX and 4 SDCCH/TRX, dependent on BSC parameter MAXNOSDCCHTRX TCH Dimensioning: Set Maximum DTHNAMR to 50%, in Ericsson network, half rate resource is a pooled resource in BSC/TRX, over dimensioned of DTHNAMR will only trigger unnecessary half rate allocation. Cells with very high utilization must be penalized.

B. 1. 2.

Parameters to Penalize Cells due to Congestion

IDLE Mode ACCMIN CRO and PT ACTIVE Mode MSRXMIN, BSRXMIN, minimum ss level Power adjustment, uniform value for : BSPRW, BSTXPWR, BSPWRT, BSPWRB Layer Threshold, this is to balance traffic if different layer is present. Layer as much as possible, please dont change, PSSTEMP Balancing: Locating Parameter: KOFFSET Cell Load Sharing Feature HCS Note: For any changes values must be carefully studied and computed, note that a dB could already provide a significant change on mobile behavior.
