Hourly Automated Tasks using Cron


Disk Space email alert to administrator based on threshold (95%+) Log Disk Space to daily log file Stopped Print Queues (qchk A |grep DOWN) and email alert to administrator Auto restart essential print queues (/usr/bin/enq U P) Run System Activity Report (sar) for all processors log to daily log file

Daily Tasks
Create daily log file Backup Data Log to daily log file Cleanup script to move temporary files to storage area Copy key files to archive area o /.profile o /etc/inittab o /etc/filesystems o /etc/sendmail.cf o /etc/ftpusers o /etc/security/* o /etc/group o /etc/smb.conf o /etc/hosts o /etc/bootptab o /etc/motd o /usr/spool/crontabs/* o /etc/passwd o /usr/home/* o /etc/qconfig Log System Configuration (lsdev, lscfg, lspv, lsps, lslpp, oslevel, lsattr) and email to administrator Print Queue Status using qchk A Drive space using df k o In particular check /tmp and /var Dead process check (ps ef) User check (who u) Size of mail queue files in /usr/spool/mail Last 100 history command using history -100 to daily log file Copy /var/adm/cron/log to archive Mail daily log file to administrator

Weekly Tasks
Full System Backup (including mksysb) Move /etc/security/failedlogin to archive

Monthly Tasks
Move backup log to archive, touch a new backuplog Move monthly system activity trace file to monthly log using Move /var/adm/wtmp to archive, touch new wtmp Move /var/adm/sulog, touch new sulog Check for patches for AIX
