CAT ( Common Admission Test ) The Common Admission Test (CAT) is an all-India test conducted by the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) as an entrance exam for the management programes of its Ten business schools (IIMA, IIMB, IIMC, IIML and others). About 250,000 students apear for CAT year on year basis. Eligibility for CAT The candidate must hold a Bachelors Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Differently Abled (DA) categories], Final year student can also apply. Age Restriction for CAT There is no age restriction for CAT. Selection Procedure for CAT The Selection Process is a two phased approach: 1. Aptitude Test (Written Test): The aptitude test or the written test is in fact not a selection but rejection process. Student quality control is imposed at this stage by testing their mental ability, hence a sizeable number of candidates are denied to go through to the next round. The test generally focuses on testing Verbal, Quantitative and Reasoning skills and includes questions on Reading and Comprehension, Language Proficiency, Numerical Ability, Data Analysis, Data Sufficiency, Critical Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, Analytical Reasoning, Inductive and deductive rasoning. 2. The Personality Tests: The selection process actually commences with these personality tests, namely Group Discussion (GD), Personal Interview (PI), Presentations and Extempore etc. All the skills that were not tested in the Aptitude Test are tested in The Personality Tests. How score is calculated? Every correct answer +3, Every wrong answer -1 Final Marks will be given in Percentiles, for each individual section as well as overall.
